DarkLAN – Xbox Community LAN @ GameOn – 18th November 2007
Link to official forum thread here.
My one gripe with the gaming collective here in Australia, is that we miss out on a lot of events that many in the US and Europe take for granted. My suggestion on the forums has culminated into what has been slated today and for what seems to be the first time, members of the Xbox.com gaming community here in Australia (Sydney to be more precise), have the opportunity to join me and many others at GameOn for this auspicious occasion.
As some of you may know, next month, I have managed to organise a LAN for the good members of Xbox.com Aussie Gen forum. With support from both the venue (Savvas @ GameOn) and the Microsoft community (Brad aka Pidgeo) I have been able to secure the venue for 7 hours on that holiest of holies, Sunday 18th November.

Already with a collection of prizes donated by Grant – XboxOZ360 himself (greatly appreciated) and many more on the way, this event is turning out to be the place to be come mid-November. Numbers are currently at 16 people with a total goal of 24, as we have gamers on the bench to fill any holes, you’ll need to speak up fast if you’d like to secure a seat.
As a general rule, DarkLAN (as Pidgeo so eloquently dubbed thee) is open to members of the Xbox.com forum community members and guests. This isn’t a competition and unfortunately you don’t get to fly to Thailand for the finals, but this is a great chance to get together with like minded gamers for some no pressure, uber fun excitement.

So far – Halo 3, Call Of Duty 4, Rainbow 6: Vegas, GRAW2 and Guitar Hero 3 are all on the cards with (hopefully) some fun tournies and mini events to run with these titles. Prizes are going to be kept fun and random throughout the day so be creative and keep smiling.
Seats are $20 for the day (9am to 4pm) and can be purchased here. Please express your interest on the aforementioned forum thread so I can keep track of all those involved. For anymore info, the official DarkLAN thread is the place to look or feel free to PM/XBL Message or comment here…

[...] DarkLAN – Xbox Community Sydney LAN [...]
awesome dude.
but yeh any kind of publicity we can get for this would be crazy haha
lol
I used to be qite good at gaining sponsorship for various things. So I’ll see if I can pull that old hat out of the cupboard and see what comes out of it . . .
I used to run Street Machine Shows out at Blacktown’s Westpoint Shopping Town for a few years to raise money for the Hearing Impaired (late 70’s), as well as heavily involved in getting the Street Machine Nats set up in the ACT originally (similar time frame).
Brings back old memories . . . petrol-head unite . . . bring back “Brickies”
yes xboxoz360 the more the merrier.
i agree with you 100% we should focus on DarkLAN as it is in afew weeks.
hmm good thinking on the sponsoring thing. maybe we could get like MS or GAME™ to be like a sponsor for the LAN’s that we all organise after DarkLAN if it is a success.
The more the merrier as they say “grathius”,
Re the PaintBall day, it would be good as there’s usually a slow period after christmas/new year with regards to games. Although, things have been changing over the last several months.
Perhaps MS might like to be involved, or even GAME™ ? It just has to be pitched to them so that it’s an ‘attractive’ and viable function to sponsor.
But first things first, concentrate on the DarkLAN as the main priority, but just keep the other thing in mind and just throw some ideas around . . .
DarkAmarda, you might like to call/email Hyper, Atomic or even Xbox360:OAXM to see if they’d be interested in some pics of the day . . . as they ‘could’ find it an interesting item to drop into a small space as a filler in the mag . . .? You never never know if you never never ask . . .
i agree after christmas we should have some sort of paintball day. that would be awesome as now you can be 16 years and older to go.
ahh dreams of being a pro gamer as Grathius being a household name are slowly getting better
lol
im bringin my camera for sure so i will be taking of pictures of people playing. afew whole groupshots of everyone at the end of the day. gonna be an awesome day
Now THAT would be awesome… A Halo / COD FPS Paintball day. Definately something to consider after Christmas… Great idea there OZ
I’m wondering if a FPS-Feast Paint-Ball event might be a good idea for ‘08 . . . There’s way too much going on now, but something to put in the “thinking basket” . . .
It could gain sponsorship from a Game Store or something, and hopefully get some press via one or some of the OZ gaming mags like Hyper/Atomic etc as co-sponsors etc . . ??
Forget Xbox360:OAXM, as their local publishing house aren’t the friendliest. But who knows, anything is possible.
Thanks for the support OZ – I’ve never had the chance to attend a LAN let alone organize one. Hopefully this should turn out to be a great day.
Photos and videos will be a definate and I’m sure that there will be many a Halo 3 saved film posted as well
Greatto see this news up mate, and also a pleasure to support it in any way I can. The whole idea of this site is to help gamers get some decent local news and information, and hopefully, the DarkLAN will become a regular event out at Miranda, and perhaps spread around to other areas within the Greater Sydney Area, over time.
I’m sure everyone will have a great time, and make sure lots of pics are taken, and some nice vids so we can post them up on you tube and then on here . . . It would also be great to put faces to the GamerTags, which hopefully will humanize the community in some small way.
Kudos to you fro taking on the responsibility of getting this done, ten brownie points to you good sir . . .
