Updated: 16th November 2007 marks the downhill run to DarkLAN 2007. I like the sound of that… Anyway, I’d just like to give you all the latest in organization, tournaments, prizes and plans we all have for our upcoming event.

How to get there.

First of all – thank you to all who have paid. This makes both my life and the life of GameOn a lot easier and guarantees your spot at DarkLAN ’07. There are still some outstanding, but as expected there should be a rush of payments coming through the next week, but remember, there are only 24 playable places and I’d hate for you to miss out.

OzFalcon has been kind enough to organize the tournament structure for Halo 3.

The DarkLAN Halo 3 Tournament ’07 will run as follows:

icon_public1.gif Location:

Game On XBOX Lounge
Shop 1,591 The Kingsway
Miranda, Sydney
NSW, Australia.

icon_public1.gif Registration:

All players wishing to participate must be present at the event by 9:30am to register in the tournament. The draw will be up at 9:45am with the first match commencing at 10am sharp

icon_public1.gif Tourament Style:

This tournament will be Free For All.

icon_public1.gif Tournament Structure:

• Competitors will, in front of everyone, have their names drawn from a hat and randomly placed in groups of 4. There will be a maximum of 6 groups forming a standard tournament bracket. In the event of an odd number of players, some groups may have 5 competitors.

• All groups of 4 will play three 10 minute rounds, each round on a different map. The 2 players with the highest average kills will advance to the next round of competition.

• This format will follow all the way through the bracket until we have identified the final 4 players.

• The final four competitors will make our DarkLan final where three 15 minute rounds will be played, each round on a different map. The player with the highest average kills will be our DarkLan Halo 3 champion!

• The game type will be Slayer.

• The maps will be Guardian, Pit and Epitaph.

• Default weapons, vehicles and radar will all be enabled. We will be running 3 second random respawns.

• In the case of a tie at any time throughout the day, the players with the least average deaths will advance to the next stage of the tournament bracket.

icon_public1.gif Prizes:

My understanding is that there will be prizes allocated for this DarkLan Halo 3 Tournament ’07, most probably for the Top 4 competitors making the final. DarkArmada and the other OZ will be able to shed some light on the prize list. See list below for some of the prizes available on the day.

So thanks to OzFalcon for organizing this for us – it’s looking great and should be a great way to add a drop of competition into the day. I’ve left it up to OzFalcon to handle the prizes for the tournament, remember, be creative!

Additional Fun On The Day

• Also:

icon_public1.gif Guitar Hero III

GrathiusXR has suggested for some of us to get together for some Guitar Hero III co-op action – this is a great idea for those of us who play and if you have the means, bring along your wicked axe for some rock godliness.

•Important:

Please remember, if you can, mark your belongings so as to avoid confusion.

XboxOZ360 has been very busy working the rooms of GAME @ Parramatta over the last week or so. After speaking with some key members of the local arms of both Activision and GAME at the recent Pre-Release Evening at GAME Parramatta, we may very well have some special COD4 Pizes to give away at the DarkLAN ’07. This means that we should all be ready for some COD4 action on the day, so bring your copy of the game as there will only be 8 copies available on-site. There are several other ideas in the pipeline re: COD4 and Activision, so watch this space.

Prizes! So far XboxOZ360 has donated all the prizes on behalf of XboxOZBlog – again, many thanks to you. It’s greatly appreciated. There are still some ideas in the pipeline re: prizes, so stay tuned. Below is what is currently on offer…

Prizes todate:

• Joytech Nitro Racing Wheel
• Joytech NEO SE Controller
• Joytech Communicator
• Joytech Recharging unit

The following guides

• Achievements Parts 1 through to 4
• Achievements Live Arcade 1 & 2
• Guide to 360- Gaming 1 & 2
• Import Gaming
• Live Arcade
• Online Success
• Halo 3: The Ultimate Companion

Again – this is greatly appreciated, especially for the Joytech equipment as there are some juicy prizes in there to suit anyone… Pidgeo, although currently on leave, did mention that he will see if he can round up anything around the office. Once he returns, I will let you know if there is anything else put up on offer.

There have been various ideas thrown around to fall under the DarkLAN label and as such, may very well come to fruition. Let’s have a great DarkLAN 2007 and hope that we can enjoy such events in the future. I will keep you all updated

  1. Not sure myself, but if you PM “grathius “, he will know, as he did his . .I should find out myself so I can put it up somewhere . . .

I feel it’s nice that at least in here, we don’t get ‘bashed’ for simply making statements about Sony or having a different opinion to ‘some’ others . . . who shall remain nameless . . .

Look forward to your contributions, and simply go through DarkArmada with any, and he then runs them past me . . . chain of command thing . . .Leaves me up to getting new things on the site.

Plus if you have any ideas, thoughts etc, then by all means, make them known. the site can’t help others if the information isn’t there that others want.

Best of luck with Uni as well.

  2. Great stuff Oz, sorry how do I go about getting my Avatar up?

No problems, sorry its taken so long to start posting, been very busy with Uni.
Now that I have finished for the year, I can maybe put something to you about contributions. I love writing and conveying my opinion, and try not to be biased when doing such things. Will let you know mate. Thanks for the quick responses. Regards Sutton Dagger :)

  3. Great to see you here mate, thanks for dropping by. See if you can get your avatar up, that helps make things more ‘personal’ as well.

The event will be great, and it seems more than the 24 needed for just the Halo Tournament will be turning up. But not all want to play Halo, so it looks like COD4 will get its fair share of players to. And those that get knocked out, can join in on either COD4 or GHIII . . .

Glad you like the style of the site – so far. Feels a easier to post and write stuff in here than it does on the Xbox.com.au forums at times . . . At least we can post stuff about the competition (Sony/Nintendo) without getting a backlash for doing so on a MS Xbox site . . . strange thing eh . .

Anyhow, enjoy the site, feel free to comment, and keep in contact with DarkArmada about contributions . . . the more the merrier as they say.

  4. I finally signed up for the blog Oz. First off just like to say great stuff, really enjoy the layout and also the detailed writing of content and reviews (shout out to Dark).

I must Im really looking forward to this event, not for the competition but just to be involved in these community events. Thats why the Fragapoolza events are something which I’m involved in. We have these consoles where a big emphasis is on the social aspects of Xbox Live, yet I dont want all these interactions to be solely online, these Lan events do wonders for the community, thats why I am involved.

Anyway I guess I will be seeing you all on Sunday, hopefully Im not too late, It will take me about 2 hours to get their :(
    Seeya

  5. It’s great to see so much excitement around something new, and I think Lee’s idea of a Lan like this was/is a great one. If followed up properly, and with the right people on board (thanks OZFalcon etc) then anything and everything is possible.

We’re looking at what ’08 can deliver in the way of events and hope that we can tie in with some other sponsors to have some decent events and Lans during the year.

It will be great seeing the different members and placing faces to GamerTags . . . or hiding them, I’ll be the one with a bag over my head saying “Punch here” – jk btw, so don’t try it. See you on the day . . . .

  6. awesome awesome and umm more awesome haha..
this looks to be a really good, crazy and fun day.
i cnt wait for Sunday now the 2 hour train ride will be worth it :P lol.
hmm that means GH3 all friday ngith and Halo 3 all saturday lol gotta hone my skills up for sunday.

    GrathiusXR has suggested for ….
i feel so famous now. XD

  7. I can’t wait… Seriously. I haven’t even played Halo 3 at all in the last 3 or 4 weeks, nor touched COD4 outside of the Beta. So go easy on me guys :P

But seriously, it’s going to be great. I’ll try and spend alot of my time setting up games on either Halo 3 or COD4 (or even Rainbow 6 if your up for it) outside of the Halo 3 tourny – organized by OzFalcon.
