Finally – Some XboxLive Gold Membership perks

Official Post on MajorNelson.com

xboxoz360_icon581.png   Can I stress that enough? Finally. Those of us (in Australia at least) who pay the $79.95rrp annually to subscribe to the XboxLive Gold Membership now have another reason to keep doing so. To the shock of Silver members looking to download the latest free content overnight, a new feature as part of the Fall Update has been revealed.

Now, Silver members will have to wait an extra week for any of the latest release free content, including demos and videos, as this content is now considered “Gold Member Exclusive”. Although I sympathise with XboxOZ360 in that he will now have to wait the extra week for content usually available straight away, this just goes to show that Microsoft are working to add extra value to the Gold Subscription.

Unfortunately – those Silver members who are not interested in the Multiplayer aspect of XboxLive will see little value in the $79.95 price tag to upgrade, if only for quicker access to the latest Gold Exclusive Content. Microsoft still have along way to go if they hope to convince these members that Gold is the way to go…

  1. I agree with you mate, a huge % of xboxlivers just like to whing about anything MS tries to do, or does for that matter, yet I see them (users) constantly using the system.

XboxLive is arguably the best online service there is today, but along with it, there is a new breed of individuals who seem perfectly happy to just complain about anything, no matter what is presented.

I just got online and updated my “Launch” 360, as well as my second one, and BOTH run quieter, smother and FASTER than they have ever done.

Games seem to play better, and the services on offer, even for a mere mortal Silver member, are still great.

As Gold member, having Value-add is a bonus you pay for, and you do so knowing that you get that “little bit extra” than you do for staying Silver.

I accept that, as I just can’t a bid the brats and trash-talkers on Live, so I’m quite willing to accept that my FREE Silver service has some limitations, albeit timed ones.

The cost of XboxLive on a daily basis in Aust is just a near $AU0.21 . . . most people waste that on change thrown into a cookie jar at the end of a day, or the $1.50 odd it costs a week ($1.50 x 52 = $78) gets spent on a single pack of gum. Yet the service they get for that mear $1.50 odd is WAY in excess of what it would cost if they actually had to get those services themselves from other sources.

Wake up Australia, you’re actually getting a decent deal, name ONE company that offers you ALL the services that XboxLive does for the normal RRP of $79 per ann . . . . you won’t find any.

  2. Grrr – I don’t understand all this… The outcry of this new addition to Gold Membership seems totally unfounded… I mean, I really don’t care about getting stuff a week early, but why can’t anyone see this is about Microsoft trying to add value?

All I see, day in day out, is people whinging about the cost of XBL Gold, then Microsoft make a move to add value to the premium membership and suddenly no one wants to get on board…

  3. Yeah, plus it’s NOT nice when your would be house mate does a runner on the day of the move, and owes $980 . . . . she’d been sharing house with me for 5 months, we agreed on this new place, then come the day of the move, she does a disappearing act, along with her share of the funds . .

Still, I keep thinking there are good people in the world . . . somewhere. Only just settling in, and had to do 80% of the move myself, and my back is not happy Jan . . . and for those that don’t know, I have a major back problem – (although I might not look like it to some), and this certainly didn’t help matters.

Plus I’ve now found some of my linen and new towels sets missing . . you have to wonder sometimes what makes some people tick. Still, I have ‘faith’ in whatever there is out there that it will provide, and I will get through these setbacks . . . I look at it as a challenge . . . albeit a rather frustrating and stressful one.

MS has done a lot with this new upgrade, and it will be interesting to see what is in store for the next one. The 360′s becoming a veritable home entertainment hub, which is ‘exactly’ what Mr Gates said it would be – eventually. He sees it as a “set-top-box” affair in due course, and has said so earlier this year.

  4. Your not really into the multiplayer games OZ? Its not really that much of a disadvantage to not have Gold if your aren’t into online games.

Their are always hassles moving aren’t their, god I hate it, just had to help my Girlfriends parents move on the weekend :(

  5. Yep, you’re right about MS having to do more to entice the non-MP players out there. Personally I don’t mind waiting an extra week, it gives me a chance to see what others might think about a DL before wasting valuable ISP usage and Gamerpoints to buy something I may not really like.

I’m not back fully yet, as I’m still “having hassles” moving, as you know Lee, but I must say, many thanks to you and our new “Contributor” SithJimLord for his contribution, and for your efforts on keeping the blog up and running. It certainly is appreciated.
