With the announcement of Macbook Air at Mac Expo, also came the release of the latest firmware upgrade for iPhone and iPod Touch owners. As usual, there were bug fixes but also quite a few interesting features to enhance the functionality of the devices, especially the iPod touch but at a price.
Feature List:
Common
• Google Maps enhancement
Locate me feature
Hybrid view with satellite imagery and street name
• Icon Customisation
• Webclips
• Lyrics Support
iPhone Specific
• Multi-recipent SMS
iPod Touch specific
• 5 iPhone apps now available (Mail, Stock, Weather, Notes, Maps)
Dock updated to mirror iPhone

Impressions
Personally, I only have the iPod touch so can only comment on those features and not too much on the features of iPhone, but the multi-recipent SMS feature should be self explanatory. Firstly I would like to point out that the only feature you get by upgrading to 1.1.3 on the iPod touch is the new dock to resemble the one on the iPhone. All the features marked with an asterisk are only available if you pay for the $25 ipod touch application pack. Even though I believe that those apps should have been available on the iPod touch to begin with, I don’t mind paying for the update.

I had a go at a Touch at Dick Smith the other day. They are truly awesome. Pity im waiting for the Iphone lol. I gotta replace my Dodgy Motorola V3.
Oh btw Grant, my Father has the new Imac, great machine. For a built in screen it looks amazing! Seriously it handles images better than my PC monitor and our 1080p TV.
The shiniest part for me though is the new keyboard, its the best thing ever to type on. Im seriously considering selling my Logitech G15 keyboard and getting a apple one. Does anyone know if it would work for the PC? For anyone who hasn’t tried the keyboard its basically the Macbook keyboard -separate.
Speaking of that I love my Macbook too!
Once you’ve played with one, you’ll know why they are SO popular . . Amanda’s has now been unlocked, and there’s basically nothing she can’t do on it, without of course phone . . . and the number of times we’ll be walking around and you can just access the net through some clowns open wireless network . . .
I saw the new iMacs yesterday, and the keyboards for them talk about THIN. and sexy . . but the new NEW ones, that have only just been released will ALL be wireless, and all have small footprint keyboards. The same as a laptop keyboard basically. Doing away with the numbers keypad, and has the same configuration as the MacBooks.
The keyboards are serious ly just 8mm thick, not including the small bar at the back that houses the 2 usb sockets . . . now that IS thing for a 1st party item. As with all Mac things, we’ll start to see similar keyboards on PC/Wintel machines in due course.
But one of the BIG features that will hit soon, is the inclusion of the iTouch/iPhone touch sensitive screen technology to be used as a input user pad on the new Notebooks . . . But that has yet to be “officially confirmed” . .but you can put money on it it’ll be in the new MacBooks etc that should be announced within the next few months.
Yeah, the iPhones look sweet, but without 3G I would find it crippled. Even using my 6110 Navigator when it’s not connected via 3.5g is painful…
Another thing, what’s the go with iPod Touch’s? Why are they so popular? They’re just an iPhone without the phone…
I want the iphones here asap!!!
