I agree with most of what you've said. linear story, very frustrating levels and a lot to be desired with the AI of your ally.

One thing that really really bugged me was aiming while behind cover. if you are pointing your cross hairs at an enemy who is below you, it doesn't necessarily mean that's where the bullets will go. often I found that my character wasn't reaching high enough so the bullets were hitting the top of the thing i was hiding behind. this is something that gears did right, that army of two got wrong, very wrong. Another thing was aiming around a corner that was on the "wrong" side. cause this is a third person game, the camera follows to one side of the character with the cross hair in the middle of the screen, which is all well and good. It is when i come to a corner that is on the same side as the screen as the character, i.e. the character is on the left side of the screen and there is a wall i want to look around also on the left side, it was very rare to get him to stick his head around on the first go. most of the time, I'd get the gun aiming straight at the wall in front of me. and even if i did manage to get it right, if I moved back into cover a little, there was a good chance the character had forgotten that he was looking around the corner and went back to staring at the wall.

Personally i haven't tried this game online yet, cause i like to finish single player campaigns by myself first, so that i don't get a person telling me how the game ends as soon as i put the disc in. not super common, but it does happen.
