Metal Gear Solid 4 Review
The closest thing to perfect since The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
by Shadow Wave

ED’s preamble (XboxOZ360) :- A Metal Gear Solid 4 review on a Xbox 360 site ! Some will wonder why an Xbox 360 dedicated site such as ourselves has a PS3 review nestled within its hallowed pages. Better yet, one that is reportedly THE PS3’s pinnacle game for Sony’s “ultimate” gaming system. The reason is a simple one really. We here at XboxOZ360-game/x360.com.au are first and foremost gamers and as such, prefer ‘games’ over fanboyism any day. BUt Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriot deserves it’s time to shine, irrespective of who reviews it.
We often sit and wonder at the level of despise, loathing and basic immaturity of so many fanboys out there that basically do themselves one of the biggest disservices any gamer can do. That is, cut themselves off from other quality games due to blind fanboyism. Plus the fact that many of these fanboys don’t even bother reading what is being presented, yet commenting on how bad or wrong it may be. It all begs to wonder at their logic – or reading skillzz (cough)
We’re not like that here, in fact many of the team either have both or all 4 major platforms with an assortment of games of each platform and enjoy ‘gaming’ on them for what they offer. But there’s one difference. Not that OUR system is better than yours etc, but just that we enjoy gaming per-say as a whole experience, rather than in part.
The team has chosen the Xbox 360 as their prime platform due to many reasons, but that does not stop them from enjoying games presented on the other platforms that they love to play. So the question is poised, should we not cover a major AAA PS3 title simply because it is “the opposition” ? Of course not, we’re more mature than that, and we would hope that other Sony based sites would do the same with Xbox only games such as Gears Of War 2, Too Human, Fable 2.
Of course, all games are not without fault. Be that an Xbox 360 game, PC or a PS3 game, and there are some glaring omission’s in what is supposedly Sony’s PS3 pinnacle game to show off ‘all’ its power and versatility. When you look at these omission’s, and see them readily available on many other 3rd party titles on both platforms or even just on the 360, such as highly destructible environments, ‘pop-’shoot-blind-fire’, free-think enemy AI (yes we know it’s part of the MGS ethos – but this is 2008 remember), one would ask the question and wonder, ‘just why they were not included into a AAA PS3 major title. More on this in the review.
But for now, let’s just settle back, go grab that cup of coffee (tea in my case) and take your time reading through the Metal Gear Solid 4 review on an Xbox 360 site as it’s a big read, (good heaven, go wash your hands afterwards eeewww – jk & sarcasm btw). Additionally, we do not believe many, if any games really warrant a full 10/10 (100%), as no game is without its flaws and quibbles, and those flaws should hold any game back from a ‘perfect’ score, irrespective of the platform, the game’s hype or its fanboy following.

As Spoiler Free as possible.
“`Soon as Metal Gear Solid is booted up to the main menu you suddenly just know in yourself that this is going to be brilliant. The menu consists of Solid Snake our favourite young hero, who has now aged close to his end, visiting the grave of the Boss. The menu’s presentation reeks of pure quality and thus, before you even start the game your adrenaline is pumping for excitement.
“`When the opening cinematic starts you assume the game is 30+ years since the end of Metal Gear Solid 2, as Snake has aged with grey hair, wrinkles and a rustier voice than ever. Whereas actually it turns out that it’s only been 5 years since the Big Shell incident and that Snake has an accelerating aging disease with only 12 months to live, but Snake has one final mission to finish before he can leave this world… He must save the word from his brother: Liquid.
Snake this time will be traveling all over the world in his final chapter and starts off in the middle east to a known location of where Liquid has been. It’s here that we are introduced to the new game play mechanics with the main new addition being Snakes Octocamo Sneaking Suit. To put it simply, this takes the stealth system from Metal Gear Solid 3 and makes it a lot more practical and less clunky. Snake’s suit will change colour and texture to match the environment he is in, to do this he needs to take cover on a wall, or go prone on the ground for his suit to change. You’ll be amazed how well the camouflage looks and in new environments will keep comparing how hard he is to see in the environment.
Snake also gains the use of the Solid Eye, which basically helps you find items and see the enemy’s health in its default mode. It also serves as Metal Gear Solid 4’s night vision and thermal goggles together. You will use this mode a lot as a lot of enemies are also camouflaged and seeing them in the distance is almost impossible without it. And finally, the Solid Eye also acts as your binoculars, which I found not very useful as early on you’ll acquire scopes and scoped weapons to use instead.
Snakes best friend; Otacon this time never accompanies Snake on his missions in person, his presence on the field is now through a Metal Gear Mk. 2 – a small metal gear that is used for communications by Otacon, but Snake can control it if he wants to. The Mk. 2 can be used as a scout, since it has stealth camouflage it rarely gets seen and can be used to also knock enemies out with its Shock attack. But its main use is in the plot line of the game.
Snakes’ controls have been revamped to be made a lot more fluid than Metal Gear Solid 3’s chunkiness, and they have done it basically right… more or less. The shooting is now done from a 3rd person view at all times, unless you choose to go into 1st person view by while holding L1 and pressing triangle and while switching between these views at first seems to be a chore, you soon adjust and you as the player appreciate having both options to choose from. That being said, if you want only 1st Person view, you can set it in options.
Snake can use so many guns in Metal Gear Solid 4 there are too many to count, as now you can collect guns off fallen enemies and use or sell them to a man named Drebin, a plot line character that also serves as your weapons dealer. Here you can buy ammo, weapons, or unlock the ID tags that are placed on weapons (finally!). Unfortunately health items are not supplied, so you still have to conserve them as best you can.
Gunplay works really well, so well so, almost if you want to ditch the stealth aspect of the game and just run and gun it, so be it. There are only 2 minor issues I have with gunplay in the Metal Gear Solid 4, these are when you take cover behind a small object, you can only shoot from the sides of cover, and it’s a lot slower than in previous games, but the problem is that you cannot pop up from cover to shoot, it’s a bit confusing as to why Konami did not put this into the game. And finally, something that you’ll notice right off the bat, is that with all the explosions from mortars and other weaponry being fired in the battlefield, not much of the environment is damaged, with the exception of a few pots and boxes. While you forget about it pretty easily, it is a small feature that would have been appreciated, and something one would expect to find in a Next-Generation game of ‘this’ caliber.
But Metal Gear Solid 4 has been made to finally finish off Snakes story, answer all the unanswered questions, and finally have an ending that will satisfy almost all the fans. And it does. The story in Metal Gear Solid 4 is one of the best stories I have ever played in a game. The cut scenes used to tell the story are produced in cinematic way that will suck anyone around into living through the story. Basically, there are 8 hours of cut scenes in the game, which all could be commonly stereotyped as a movie as an innocent bystander walks by. These have the adrenaline, the quality, and the information to be featured as to what I think are the greatest cut scenes ever made in a game, and they are done in Engine.
The cut scenes are now separated between each other more, than previous titles, you quite often will have 30 minutes or more of game play between cut scenes, which helps a lot compared to sometimes the cut scene ever 30 seconds in the older games. With that said, there are also many long cut scenes which are the trademark of Metal Gear Solid, but finally these cut scenes come with a pause button!
The previous titles used the codec communications way to often as a substitute for cut scenes, sometimes having 30 minute conversations basically where all that appears on the screen is text, can be quite annoying for many players, especially when often these calls were there just to inform you on how to climb a ladder. But finally, codec conversations are barley used in Metal Gear Solid 4, and this time usually the people you communicate are fully animated and basically still serves are a small cut scene. And for the minor information such as how to climb a ladder, you will just hear Otacon inform you while you play, without the need to stop for pointless cut scene, finally Konami got this 100% right.
What’s most notable and unique about Metal Gear Solid 4, in terms of the story is how in the original games, you always portrayed Solid Snake as the badass almost invincible hero. However the story in Metal Gear Solid 4 helps you emotionally connect with Snake and thus helps you, the player feel the pain he feels, and really be drawn into his story. And while making Snakes personal story much more of a focus than in previous games.
My final words on the story are this: I found Metal Gear Solid 4’s story to be one of the most memorable games I have ever played, it has the action, adrenaline and thrills a movie has, with a plot that gives off a addiction and forces you to play until unfortunately the game ends. This game answers every single question and unanswered plot item left in the 3 games. The game connects all the dots and some of the connections you would have never seen coming. Prepare to say “oh Wow!” Many times during the course of the game.
Metal Gear Solid 4 took me about 18.5 hours to beat on the hardest difficulty available on your first play through, this includes cut scenes, and so even if you skip them all, the game still lasts a decent 10 hours in length.
Graphically this game is one of the most beautiful games ever, only coming into close rivals with Crysis, but while Crysis beats Metal Gear Solid 4 in Game play graphics, it blows Crysis out of the water in Cut scenes. Cut scenes are done in engine so the transition between both is smooth and doesn’t take you out of the action. The textures on Snakes Octocamo suit look amazing. As do the floor and wall textures. Generally everything about graphics is there, such as depth of field. You may find the occasional low resolution texture here and there, but generally it is a fine game, with the Frame Rate dropping barley ever, and not to any unwatchable degree. Lip-synching is fantastic and general character design and graphics have never appeared this real life looking.
The uncompressed sound featured in Metal Gear Solid 4 is amazing; the game features True HD sound, and even on a non True HD sound system, the 5.1 really works and sounds amazing the battlefield sounds alive with each speaker alive with different noise pleasures. Along with the brilliant voice acting by David Hayter who shines over the rest of the voice actors as Snake gets a more rustic voice to associate with his now Old Age. Don’t get me wrong, there are no bad voice actors in this game, they are all fantastic, it’s just Snakes voice work just somehow shines over the others really helps the story unfold.
Metal Gear Online, the multiplayer side of Metal Gear Solid 4, is tough, with the short time I’ve played the multiplayer side; I’ve learnt that it’s a game that requires a lot of skill and time put into it to get the most out of it. The problem is, this game becomes a lot more difficult to play thanks to the majority of PS3 owners not having a headset to use. This makes the team based game, become more of an ‘every man for himself’ game. The game play is still quite a lot of fun, and is fun to get a large killing streak, or sneak up behind on a enemy that just passed you hiding under a box, only to grab him from behind and choke him.
Along with this, Konami are making you pay, if you want to have more than one character on your account, while I don’t think it’s a big deal, I find them forcing you to pay for a 2nd character a bit off. What I’ve noticed are that the multiplayer maps are fantastic, and some where you wish you saw them or something similar in the single player mode of the game. A big plus to Konami to let you just stay in the multiplayer room you’re in, so you never have to stop and find a new game after each match like many games are doing now. It’s a great new addition, and will keep Metal Gear Solid 4 thriving for a long time.
In terms of Metal Gear Solid 4 coming to the Xbox 360, I don’t think I could ever see it happening, as it is a BIG game, with many amazing things that happen in it, it’s simply a game that is just too large, perhaps it might be possible on 2 discs. But even the PS3 requires a 3 minute install for each of the 5 acts of the game. And I don’t think the 360 even has an Install option. Metal Gear Solid 2 was brought to the original Xbox, so I hope that Konami gets Metal Gear Solid 4 spread out as many people as possible as it’s a game everyone needs to play.
Finally, Metal Gear Solid 4 is a game you will cherish for the rest of your lives. It’s the end of a era, the era of Solid Snake and his journey. The game will reach a conclusion that will leave you feeling whole and humble. You will relive the game in your head for days after its been beaten.
In my opinion, this has been the best game out since Zelda Ocarina of Time, it’s truly revolutionary, and its cinematic game play and storyline carry this game to the number one position on the podium. It does have a few minor setbacks, but they are so minor most players won’t even noticed them, or if they do, they will be forgotten a second later. The game has many things to unlock after you initially beat the game, so it will keep you playing for many, many hours. And I can only hope that Konami’s next game featured in the Metal Gear universe revolutionizes the series even further.
“9.9/10

As good as MGS4’s story is, if the plot is advanced entirely through cutscenes when the player is not in control of the character, then the game itself does not, in fact, have a story. It becomes a plotless game with a movie tacked on.
I believe a game designer with a priority on narrative should work to COMBINE gameplay and story, rather than keeping them completely separate.
lol – my sympathies to your Inbox. I am loving this game though.
as a sony fan i give you guys much respect for this. not because of the score but for your professionalism.
Very good rundown of this game. I love it as well. I have very similar feelings about the game. Very fair criticisms, too. It’s true that many on the PSN don’t have headsets, and it’s frustrating in team games, but I’m glad you didn’t say things like the 360 could play it without installs or the game would be far superior with the 360 controller. I hope your review is appreciated and that you don’t take too much flak from fanboys.
It feels good to see gamers again. Thank you for helping me see them again. Not fanboys condemning a game because it isnt on their system. Thank you
Excellent review, I agree with you guys, I played the game and this game deserve that 9.9 score
This game is a masterpiece. And as gamers, you have to give credit where credit is due.
Thanks again for your honesty
I agree on all accounts
Nice job guys, i haven’t seen such a thing done at any other site, also a good review considering the circumstances
“We here at XboxOZ360-game/x360.com.au are first and foremost gamers and as such, prefer ‘games’ over fanboyism any day.”
perfect way to start this review…i wish all the reviewers/players could be so “mature” and serious like you, my congratulations.
now i wish some sony site could do the same thing with the K.A. of the xbox
Great job. I love the game too. If only all gamers were a little more mature.
I’m looking forward to getting an Xbox360 when Gear of War 2 comes out
Cool. That´s a good initiative from Xboxoz360.
No console war. We only want good games, no matter the system.
I have never read this site, but I saw a reference to it and decided to hit the link and I only have one word to summmarize this review…
BRAVO
For a system dedicated website to admit this and enjoy this is a VERY refreshing thing to see, particuraly right now as bias and “fanboyism” has hit an all time high
Glad to see there are still real gamers out there, and not mindless puppets following thier console of choice
You have made a new fan and I have linked this site for future use, bravo again!
man this article makes me so happy, ive had a PS3 for a while now and no console exclusive (on PS3) has had me more engrossed. You guys have really Stocked Up and could be a trend setter for future game reviewers.
Props from the Sony fanboy lol
PSN: seeunextuesday
Way to go guys! I just finished the game. It was by far the most polished as well as engrossing gamming experience that have been a part of.
I appreciate your focus towards 360 titles, however that said, I appreciate you all the more for giving a fair review on a great title for the PS3. Down with fan-boyism.
you guys are awesome, this is the first time I see anything like it. An XBox360 dedicated site reviewing a PS3 game, wow who would had ever guessed. I hope this sets a new trend, where any gaming site dedicated to a console or not can review a game, and most important dont be biased, just because its not on their preferred system. I mean I’m genuinely impresses, you guys were not biased what so ever, it really is something to give credit to. More sites need to do follow up, do the same about XBOX360 games, its time this “fanboyism” sh** stops, and rather all of us gamers start demanding more AAA games whether it be for PS3 or 360.
Ps: This comes from a dedicated PS3 owner, guys once again I appreciate your honesty and fair review.
Wow. not because of the review.
Wow.not because of the 9.9 score
Wow because you guys are true proffesionnals, an xbox dedicated site that reviews another systems game. I leave all my respect to you guys, you’ve made a fan, this is in my favorites and you are sure to see me here again, i hope you guys get lots of new fans cause i think you deserve it. hopefully you read the comments. thanks again for me, a gamer, feeling alive in this world invaded by fanboys. great job and long live games like Metal Gear Solid 4.
Thanks to everyone for the comments of support. We here at Xboxoz360-gamer can appreciate a game for what it is, in this case, a Kojima masterpiece. Every gamer, irrespective of preferred platform, should play this game.
As stated by your comments, down with fanboyism
Cheers guys and gals
Thanks for the positive comments of the review, it was a pleasure to write it
Best review ever, besides mine…
Nah, but if I get a PS3, it will be for this and only this…Anyone have a spare $750?
I have only a ps3 and no x360, but I totally agree with you guys for reviewing mgs 4, it is definitely the most unique and enthralling experience i’ve ever had on any platform ever.
I have money for only one platform and of course I miss halo 3 or mass effect, and am really looking forward to fable 2 and too human.
And of course Gears 2.
Anyway, just wanted to show my appreciation for your review and your site. Good job.
I just want to show my support and say that this is an awesome example of a true gamer. Thanks.
Mmuch respect to u guys for this review and the premise on which it was based. gj and a solid review as well.
As some posters above already mentioned i want you to know that u have gained one more fan. keep up the good work guys
What a great review!
You guys at XboxOZ360 should have respect from every gamer, who preferred ‘games’ over ‘platforms’. It’s is extremely rare for any Web Site that decided to give a review to another system, and in a good way.
Considering from this reivew, I truly believe that XboxOZ360’s staffs do have love in games without bias in any comment. And you did say out of your heart from playing the game.
Please have my respect.
i have nothin but full respect for this website, good review plus no fanboyism, nice!
it’s the best MG game ever, great game deserve such attention for all gamers.
thanx XboxOZ360-game/x360.com.au to bring this out here, i never look at ur websites before but u show professionalism here and i wish u keep that momentum for all the great games.
congratulations.
you have earned my upmost respect and consider this review as one of the most professional i have ever read. i truly hope that independent sony sites follow suit and review 360 games that deserve praise.
i have all consoles but im not ashamed to say that i lean towards the PS3. i was shocked to see this review but i am so pleased that i read it.
i will be coming back here alot
Great Review Shadow Wave, especially coming from a X360 dedicated site.
Fanboys suck, Gamers rule
Great review, just goes to show how all platforms contain good games! Just this game alone makes me want to buy a PS3, come on tax time!
WOW! first off I just want to say what everyone else has, great job on being professional! I myself was a fanboy in mild sorts with thoughts like, ” i will never buy a microsoft product let alone an xbox!” but after reading this article (making myself late to work in the process
) i agree completely, games are games.
They’re meant to be fun, not to worship like everyone else seems to think, what i’ve noticed in the past few years has been people playing a game just because its cool, not because they like it (i myself have been caught up in that a couple times) but great job, you have earned yet another fan and have converted my thinking on the largest scale and i thank you! one other thing…
Yes this game in my complete honest opinion is the best game ever made, yes it all has to do with the story line for me but i’ve been playing the series for almost 20 years and i’ll tell you right now, no movie, song, album, picture, whatever has ever caused a shed of tears from my face, but this game has done it single handedly, i now have immense feelings for the metal gear series and kojima, great game, great story EVERYONE needs to play this game! P.S. sorry for the novel
Ed: Excuse the editing, it was just hard to read in one big block of text mate,
I must say this, it IS encouraging to see the wonderful replies in here, as well as on places like N4G, which are usually rife with Fanboyism to the extreme, irrespective of the platform, as all fanboys do do it.
There are those who still think a MS Xnbox 360/Xbox site should not be writing about PS3 games, which just goes to show:
1) the maturity (lack thereof) of that person and
2) The blind, unwavering bias that many so-called gamers have against others, simply because these others have chosen a different platform to support, rather than the one the fanboy WANTS everyone else to support.
Hopefully, with YOUR help (that is, mature like minded gamers, who just happen to be Sony supporters), we can start to make a difference. This can happen, all it takes is for you to cut down those fanboys, especially if they are from a platform YOU support, as in the end, they do not represent YOUR thoughts or feelings, which are evident here today.
I will NOT support a Xbox fan (read Xbot) slagging off at a Sony thread. game, article etc simply because he/she believes it’s rubbish. If they can not have a decent discussion, or be ‘open’ to the possibility that they could well be wrong, then I have no time for them whatsoever.
And I’m sure I speak for the many members of our team what I say that. To all of you who have visited, and given your comments, kudos out to you for taking the time to do so, and all we ask is that when you see our articles on sites, that you perhaps give them a read, pass comments, for or against, and help us also stamp out this ridiculous Fanboyism that is rampant in this current generation of gamers – sorry, so-called gamers of today.
wow, love the professional acts here guys, keep it up. Being a solid ps3 supporter, I haven’t played too many xbox 360 titles and never really understood its own supporters, (also, all my friends’ 360’s got the old RRoD, making playing games over there hard!) but well each to his own. A reason for this may be the fact that I’ve never taken a console online, and thats where the 360 supposedly is far superior, unfortunately, no online play in my country, so I make the single player take priority!
The review itself, was relatively good. No spoilers, which is excellent, and also no fanboy bias whatsoever (amazing in this day and age!). However, there are some aspects where it doesn’t seem so professional, spelling mistakes, and its not all that deep of a review, etc. Aside from that, great job guys!
I have never set foot on this website before, but thats gonna change now!
Great work going off the beaten path, instead of following all the other “professional” reviewers (GameTrailers, I’m looking at you. I will never understand how MGS4’s story is 8.3 when Halo 3’s is 9.7, other than some obvious bias-ness going on). Kudos guys.
Metal Gear Solid is incredible to use, it really is a spy game that targets with Splinter Cell…
yay
I’m sure you guys are getting sick of this by now but awesome review and awesome proffesionalism. Everyone deserves to play this game, i’ve played and finished it 3 times and i can’t get enough of it and not many games keep me around for long, even the previous MGS games have their limits, but this game is out of this world and its very promising for the future of gaming. The PS3 is truly a great system…too bad that the only game worth playing that’s exclusive to it is MGS4, i’m sure things will change fast here.
I’m as much a PS3 fan as i am a 360 fan because unlike the original Xbox, the 360 made a believer of me and i own almost 30 games for the system most of which are very good titles. The Wii as well…everyone needs to open their eyes and play games because they’re games not because they’re on one system or another, just as you guys have done. I’d give you a standing ovation but i don’t think you’d recieve it. Keep up the great work
Thanks to all the guys above for the great comments and support. Many of the staff at XboxOZ have multiple platforms from this gen and others (big winks @ PS2 & Gamecube). What we all have in common is the 360 and hence that’s our platform of choice. But as Oz and others have put it we are first and foremost gamers and if a AAA game turns up, regardless of platform, I can assure you many of us have played it or are waiting with baited breath to do so!
As new members of the site, I wholly encourage you to subscribe to our RSS feed and actively comment on articles that are not just your platform of choice but are of genuine interest to you as a GAMER. In my opinion fanboyism is destroying the very reason that most of us started playing games… that is FUN!
Anything our readers can do to support this site’s philosophy or remind others who may have forgotten why they started gaming in the first place would not only be appreciated by us but may well be the start of something much bigger than this site.
Get Gaming, Stop Hating.
PS: Nice review Ben and well done on keeping it spoiler free!
Wow everyone is in love with this masterpiece, this game truly is PERFECT thanks for writing such a honest and great review. I own both systems X and P, but is kind weird seen this review here no one else will do this especially not Sony fans. Most PS3 exclusives like this will coming all year long and next year can’t wait for 2010. As for Xbox 360 Fable 2 looks good, Too Human mediocre Gears of War 2 gotta play it first to say if is a hit or a miss????.
I wish I have a PS3 T_T.
i like many others have both systems….its only game i have on PS3…but its worth £300 in my books……hey i love my xbox but nobody should miss out on playing this game….
If I had the money, I would get a PS3, but here in Australia they are around the $700 mark, while the 360 is mid $500’s and often less. Then there’s games etc and a PS3 Shock controller at $AU100+, so change from $1000 isn’t a lot.
Right now the site and me especially need a new computer to maintain the site, which for me comes first. SO I’ll be getting a new (well superseded) Mac Pro Quad Core real soon and dbl 20″ screens . . I could get an iMac, but they are limited in upgrades, and as I want it to last a while, the Mac Pro gives me more flexibility.
So the poor old PS3 will just have to wait even longer now. and I HATE it when ppl say that if you don’t have all three, or at least the two main ones, then you’re not a real gamer.
They obviously do not have financial restraints to work within.
Wow – I leave and come back here to see the MGS4 review not suffer from a single negative comment here… If only more sites could see that fanboyism is a lie and we are all gamers.
*clap clap clap*
wow thats how u know a true pro keep up the good work, I hope this people out here that made what was supposed to be fun a negative and hateful experience can learn from u man ….Lets all chill and enjoy life…I’m will have to buy a ps3 since my favorite game will not be on xbox360….thanks allot.
As many have said before, I love my 360 for numerous reasons and it was the first ‘Next Gen’ console I bought- but I have always loved the Metal Gear series and immediantly starting saving money up to buy a PS3 just for this game (MGS4). It was worth it in my opinion and this review reinforces it.
To put it simply, even with my Xbox-bias, I will admit two things- One, this game is simply not possible to be on the 360; who knows… we may see this game on the next Microsoft console but not this one as this game really does require being installed in order to play and numerous disks will not suffice.
Two- this game is the single reason you should own a PS3… it really is that good and you won’t be disappointed if you have any love for video games! This game also will become a huge poster child for the “Video Game are Art” arguement! To sum this post, I am proud to see the level of maturity from this reviewer compared to certain others and I have immediantly book-marked this site and will be subscribing to your RSS Feed as soon as I post this message.
Keep up the good work and thanks for showing that not all X-Box owners are blind fanboys!
MGS 4 sucks!!! So does the PS3!!!
Just kidding – great review guys. I own a 360 and want to get a PS3 for games like this. I am surprised – no negative comments so far (except for my joke:)
Tahnks for posting
you OWN!!! R-E-S-P-E-C-T for that review i only have xbox 360 but i think that mgs 4 is a perfect game that every gamer should play!!! i need to buy a ps3 tho…
great job guys!!!! u own them all

My utmost respect goes out to you!
After all, this is a Xbox site and I expected nothing but bashing and a low 7-8 score.
But what you managed to do with this review is that you completely put aside any kind of fanboyism or preference and that is admirable.
And naturally, I agree. MGS4 is my absolute favourite this generation and indeed, one of the best games of all time.
There isnt much to review. Everyone know’s how good it is. I’ve only played up to Act 2 and I’ve come to a conclusion that this is the best game I’ve ever played in my life. So few flaws and when they’re found, you cant even think about them because in the next few seconds, something awesome is about to happen.
I think the only flaw was that when your behind cover, you cant peek over and shoot. But I think Kojima implemented leaning on the wall to just hide better and not to shoot.
I never could get into these games. Then again, I am not a shooter fan. I will give this one a try at some point.
I was originally put off by the long cut scenes, but after reading so many positive reviews (and especially from your site, being XBOX and all!) I’m getting my hands on it ASAP!
Thanks, as with your Infamous review, this has been a great read.
I have honestly got to say that out of all games i have ever played this is def at the top of the list. Bioshock was at the top Until I played this….Just my opinion….and i have all systems including my old -=Atari and Neo-geo…lol
