Price drop on Xbox360 Pro at K-Mart in the US. Pictures have surfaced of K-Marts next sales catalogue due for release next week showing 3 pics of the Xbox 360 Pro 20 gig unit for just a “New Low Price” of $US299.99. which is due for release on July 6th – (US).
Update: To further fan the fires, New Zealand’s GamePlanet, an online retailer based in NZ, has stated they have price drops on both the Xbox 360 Elite and the Xbox 360 Pro, reducing their retail price by $NZ100 which are scheduled for July 2nd in NZ.
This is just a week out from E3 ’08 and could well be true. It would fall inline with the European price drop earlier and hopefully it “may” see its way over to the Asian areas, including Australia/New Zealand – fingers crossed.
While rumours are one thing, pics of in-store promotional gear are another thing altogether, as it cost big $$ to do art and advertizing and print runs of that magnitude for it to be “just a rumour or hoax” . . The question is, “will Australia share in this price drop, or will we still have to wait even further to get a reduced price, while PS3 sales increase in the area“.
MS Xbox-Div locally (Aust/NZ) and overseas do need to do something, and soon. So a drop in price which goes across the board of $US50 would definitely help them at this time, and help fuel sales prior to E3 ’08. No doubt they will have some nice announcements from E3′ 08 to inspire more purchases if this IS the case, which we hope it is.
It makes perfect sense to drop a price prior to making announcements re new games or IP’s, and hearing that Frank O’conner from Bungie has moved back to MS Games Studios which has fueled rumours of more Halo interest. Why would he be returning if not to work on “something” to do with Halo. I firmly believe MS Xbox-Div do have some stratigic plans up their collective sleeves, but they do need to get them moving if they wish to maintain a steady lead in the console sales globally at this stage.

It certainly would make an Elite purchase much more palatable – as that would be my next purchase if I was to get another 360. A PS3 would be on the list as well, but it would be a used one, one of the earlier 80 gig units with BC abilities.
Seeing that that $NZ is similar to ours, and our general price points are also similar on the same goods, we could or would hopefully see a $80 – $90 drop in our local prices – IF this was to be the case.
Plus, IF this does occur (US and NZ price drop) and Australia was/is not included, then the local market will ship hardware from NZ, as it would be more financially viable to do so given the exchange rate presently.
Knowing that, I would certainly hope that should this occur, then MS Xbox-Div Aust would drop its price accordingly.
Hopefully they do bring out a price drop. As my brother is looking to buy a 360 for his room.
I woudl buy one as well to take advantage of the HDMI that my tv is capable of but VGA is awesome as it is.
Sorry to for further information, i am getting a new TV soon and to get an Xbox with HDMI would be great to go with it. Bring it on i say!
I would go out and get a new 360 instantly if this was the case
This is great news, I need at least two more 360s for my house, this will make achieveing that alot cheaper
