Guitar Hero:- Another Game to Movie Adaptation

Guitar Hero The Movie:-

A plausible storyline but do we really need another movie based around a video game?

With movies like Max Payne set for release this year and Street Fighter: Legend of Chun Li & Tekken next year along with talks of making a Gears of War movie and a Bioshock movie, it seems that Guitar Hero is the next game that’s thrown it’s hat in to be adapted to the big silver screen.

Producer/Director Brett Ratner has apparently asked Activision if he could make a movie based on the popular hit video game Guitar Hero. He did of course name the latest installment in the Guitar Hero franchise, Guitar Hero: World Tour.

“It could be about a kid from a small town who dreams of being a rock star and he wins the Guitar Hero competition. One of these dreams-[come-true] kind of concepts.” Storyline of course sounds like your typical teen age kids dream comes true and so forth. I would of thought seeing as Brett named the latest Guitar Hero game would of been better to have a group of 3 kids that form a World Tour Band and take it to the big league.

Sound plausible? Yes, but if i was Activision i wouldn’t let director Brett Ratner produce/direct a movie based on the hit video game. Why? Well who here has watched X-men: The Last Stand? Now do you think that Brett would be best suited to helm the title of director for a movie based on Guitar Hero? I think not.

Of course it may not be all bad if it was actually done, but then again there have been so many hashed movies about a young boys dream coming true, making the big time and being the underdog. Do we all really need to see another movie with the same concept but a different area, gaming?

Lets just hope that Activision are smart enough to not let him do a movie that includes Guitar Hero because where would he have the time to do so? As it is rumoured Brett is apparently aiming to do a game to movie adaptation of God Of War…. Now i will leave that one for you to decide.

As for my thoughts I think future game to movie adaptations needs to be thought through carefully; Lets take a look at the good and the bad.

Good:

Hitman:

Looked promising but was let down by a few stupid scenes that were not needed and some iffy moments which didn’t feel Hitman enough. Overall it was a good action movie but not the best game to movie adaptation.

Mortal Kombat:

Excellent fighting sequences while staying as true as possible to the game history. Too bad the sequel didn’t do as well. Probably one of the better Game to Movie adaptations I believe.

Bad:

Alone In The Dark:

I don’t need to say anything here because for those who have scene it, will know how horrid it is.

Dead or Alive:

Good for some booty looking but nothing else. Horrid acting, and typical Hollywood flair to ruin it.

Doom:

Probably sounded good on paper but poorly executed. The 1st person scene while cool really felt unnecessary.

Street Fighter:

While an awesome B Grade movie to watch, it is pretty horrible with awful acting that makes you cringe.

Far Cry:

Mainly because Uwe Boll is the director. Simple.

There are plenty of other game to Movie adaptations that some may think are great, some may think are bad, and some may think “Why on earth did they even make this?” If Hollywood believe that it will rake in the cash for them then it will be done, but as of late the gamers have spoken and shown their frustration at these movies, as they ruin such popular gaming franchises, and now time is being spent to make sure it is  as good as it can be and not some cheesy way to bring in more money.

Lets hope Max Payne breaks this trend as it does look very promising, but everyone may be mislead and it could be down right, What the f? Only a few months before it’s released so fingers crossed.
