We here at XboxOZ360-gamer are all quite excited about Bethseda’s upcoming Fallout 3. Here are our top 5 reasons that you should share our excitement.

5 Reasons To Be Excited . .

5. Classic series revitalized.

The fallout series has a massive following and they are definitely classics by anyone’s standards. Yet understandably they are fairly dated and not really suited to the current generation of gamers’ desires, so the series being revitalized by the kings of the sandbox rpg genre is the best thing that could happen to the series.

4. Deadly teddies.

The only thing better than a rocket launcher that shoots rockets is one that also shoots assorted household items. Playing around with this baby is sure to be a real hoot, as you can load it up with whatever you find.

3. VATS

For every measure of anticipation that I have for this feature I have equal parts trepidation. It will either work beautifully, add style and strategy to the game, or make it feel like your not really in control, and are instead simply watching your character do things.

2. Consequences

This seems to be the biggest thing that sandbox games like GTA and Saints Row miss, large-scale consequences for your decisions. Whether you kill someone or not might slightly change a cut scene in GTA, but other than that there is little impact upon the actual game world. Destroy a city in Fallout and it is gone for good. That’s the sort of consequences that should happen in a genre that is trying to make it seem like your options are limitless.

1. Moral crisis

Fallout 3 gives you the opportunity to be the good guy, or the evil scoundrel. Not really a hard decision for me, but being able to make the decisions is without a doubt the thing that excites me most about this title. Of course this one ties back into the previous one as whether you take the righteous, evil, or even the neutral path there will be large consequences.

  1. Though I haven’t played the original Fallout games as much as I would have liked, this new direction taken by Bethesda is probably the only logical step the series could have taken. It seems gamers these days (certainly not all) are after instant gratification and likely wouldn’t respond to another Fallout game in the same vein is the 1st and 2nd titles, isometric isn’t really considered the new ‘black’.

As you said Alymon, it’s yet to be seen if this new direction will be for better, or worse. Either way, I can’t wait.

  2. Well I mean it’s simply my opinion, so other fallout fans may feel free to disagree with me. Personally I think it will be great for the series.

  3. Most fans of Fallout would resent the statement that “the series being revitalized by the kings of the sandbox rpg genre is the best thing that could happen to the series.”

I’m looking forward to Fallout 3, and I like what I’ve seen so far but that doesn’t change the fact that Bethesda has completely changed alot of the core features that made Fallout…. Fallout.

Whether it’s for the better or worse remains to be seen still.
