Elites down $AU100 to $AU549
Always wanting to bring the news first and trying to stay true to our name of being a “Community News and Resource Site” first and a Microsoft site second, we are never shy on bringing you news that can at sometimes appear controversial. This is no exception. News just in from various retailers has come to hand, and we believe we would share it with you – first.
As the battle for the gamers hard earned cash rages between the industry giants, it seems that Microsoft has gone for the jugular, hoping to secure a decisive victory in hardware sales across the holiday season. It’s just done superb sales with Gears Of War 2 across Australia, now this.
According to a solid retail source, Microsoft are gearing up to announce a massive price drop across all Xbox360 SKU’s here in Australia, this reduction will come into effect tomorrow – 11th November 2008.
Note: 11th November Aust = 10th Nov US so US “could” get their price drop a day later ? – that is of course if the price drop is across the aboard globally ?
As stated all iterations will receive the price cut, details as follows. All prices indicated as RRP in $AUD. Prices are expected to peak even lower with various incentives from different retail outlets. This will no doubt be due to even further reduction in production costs, thus allowing for further drops in RRPing – hopefully across the board globally ? Thanks Mr Bun
Prices to reduced savagely:
• Elite: Originally $649 – Reduced to $549 = $100 off
• 60gb: Originally $499 - Reduced to $399 = $100 off
• 20gb: Originally $399 - Reduced to $349 = $50 off
• Arcade: Originally $349 – Reduced to $299 = $50 off
Surprisingly the ‘Holiday Bundle‘ deal is still in effect, meaning that the Elite & Pro console packs will include Lego Indiana Jones and Kung Fu panda, whilst the Arcade model comes with Sega Superstar Tennis. These prices will go a long way in ensuring a bitter battle over the next couple of months, with Nintendo and Sony still reluctant to follow suit.
To put this price cut in perspective, the Nintendo Wii still retails for $388 here in Australia, while the Playstation 3 still sells for a whopping $688 (price includes newly released LBP 80gb bundle). Stay tuned for the official announcement on the 11th November.
This will give Microsoft “the edge” this holiday season in Australia, especially at a time when money is being watched very carefully with families and Christmas presents. The economy is in a very touchy situation at the moment, and seeing a drop in such family fun retail products could spur some families sitting on the fence to finally jump over – or “Jump In” as the case may be – pun intended.
