Mirrors Edge resides in a strange new gaming genre, touted as a First Person Parkour title, it brought a unique perspective and feel to the overcrowded FPS market. Today Mirrors Edge developer Dice and Publisher EA, have announced the first downloadable content (DLC) set to be released in January 09′.
Titled the ‘Pure Time Trial Map Pack’, it will feature an odd set of obstacle courses, reminiscent of the minimalist approach used in Super Mario Galaxy’s special stages.
Leaving the city scape behind, and following a more ‘game orientated’ approach may appeal to those initially put off by Mirror’s Edge design and its totalitarian concrete setting “No guns, no cops, and no city: this is true aesthetics, agility and flow that will challenge any runner”, as stated in the press release. The DLC pack will cost $10 USD or 800 Microsoft points (hopefully the 800 Microsoft points will be the same outlay for Australian gamers)
Playstation 3 owners will get an additional time trail map for free as part of the Exclusive DLC offer. It is a different approach to DLC which usually adheres to the main titles story and setting, DICE may just have a winner on its hands here.
