That is complete horse crap!!! Give them more time? I have always been a huge fan of GT, ever since the first. but really...the damn game was supposed to be a RELEASE TITLE for the PS3. So they release a watered down version to keep you interested (smart move on their part). Then they finalize the date only to change it when they are within only a couple of months. I do like forza, but something is still missing from it. Polyphony just needs to finalize it and release it . And they will still have to come out with another one like everyone else. It makes sense for the bottom line if they do it they most people do.

Yes, it always takes a longer-than-expected time for games of this caliber to come out. I'm a PS3 guy, but think the 360 is pretty cool and has a lot going for it...

But let's be serious? How long were 360 fans waiting for Halo3 to come out? Or Half-Life (anything) for the PC? Or the 360 itself? Or the next shipment of Wiis at WalMart? Or a condiment that combined both mayonaise AND mustard?? OR THE NEXT INSTALLMENT OF BARBIE HORSE ADVENTURES????//

etc.

"He’s (Kazunori Yamauchi) simply interested in making the game for himself and no one else. He even admits to NOT playing ANY other game in his spare time . . .The game will NEVER be finished."

I suppose if he said that he played other games in his spare time, he'd be putting that before getting GT5 out earlier. Can't win either way, eh?

Give Polyphony time - they know what they're doing, how else would they be in the position they are today as market leaders for their genre?

I agree that GT5's constantly delayed release date is annoying. If you miss your mark by years, chances are you never should have made the mark in the first place. While I dislike an unfinished game as much as the next guy, there is a point where you have to stop, or else no game would ever be released. Often, that means setting a limit on the amount of content that you can include.

I am frankly dumbfounded by the amount of fanboyism is some of these responses, especially from those who have not played the games that they're insulting. Until you have seen and played Forza in-depth, you really shouldn't go bashing it. GT4 may have been a better DRIVING simulator than Forza 1, but Forza 1 was the better RACING simulator. Calling Forza 2 or Grid's damage "half-arsed" (to quote a fellow commenter) doesn't even come close to giving it the credit it deserves - have you played either game? I HIGHLY doubt that GT5 will have completely true-to-life damage - I just don't believe that it is realistically possible on the current generation of hardware, even IF the automakers gave it the go-ahead, which they won't.

For the record, I am an Xbox 360 owner who loves Forza 2, loved Forza 1 in its time, and who played GT3 and still likes and plays some GT4. I don't own a PS3 (yet), and I made my choice due to a number of factors - The 360 was cheaper ($200 at the time), had what seemed to be a better online interface (at the time - I don't know how the PSN stacks up to XBL now, although I am still very happy with XBL), and, most importantly, had games that I wanted. At the time, that meant PGR3, which provided me with over a year of highly enjoyable online racing until Forza 2 came out. I will probably end up owning a PS3 at some point, but it will require some additional price drops, and a system selling game - AKA GT5 (although I would get Little Big Planet at the same time, that game - as much as I want it - is not a system seller for me). Until then, I will continue to enjoy Forza, Dirt, Grid, and the PGR games, along with other excellent games such as GTAIV, CoD4, etc. But when GT5 comes out, saying to a PS3 is going to be hard.

In the end, let's all try to be a little more open minded.

Ouch...

"It’s obvious that the site (Import Tuner) did not do the correct thing and even date their interview or timeline it with their published issue."

And you didn't do your research properly, which I believe is the greater "sin" of the two, especially in journalism...

"Keep in mind that the article below is mostly about the sad fact around developers pushing dates around so much without too much regard for the end user. If all developers did this, and used this method, we’d have far less games being released, and a pile of “updates” being dished out that we still had to pay for as a retail product."

Why do people believe it is their right to have a game at a given time? Get a life! Sure, it's nice to actually have something when it's been "promised", but the simple fact is that developers almost never promise a given release window, which has always been the case (i.e. for the last 30-odd years!) and they are usually only forced into giving estimates as a result of constant badgering from the greedy public.
The updates to Prologue have all been free so far (excluding DLC such as videos etc., as with many current games) so I'm not sure why you mention retail costs here.

"Another from GTPlanet where he asks . . why are you saying that. Oddly enough he must have forgotten his OWN comments in the earlier interview where HE stated 2009 or 2010."

"Nine" and "Ten" sound quite similar in Japanese; convenient? Possibly... If you read the linked forum thread, you'll see that the "why are you saying that" comment is (inadvertently?) taken out of context in this quotation (tsk, tsk!)

For everybody's future reference, I'd like to personally recommend GTPlanet.net for all GT5 related news; their screening is better than most, and they even have some "industry" members frequenting, with tasty tid-bits on occasion...

By the way, congratulations in your choice of picture for Yamauchi-san - he actually looks hurt by your cruel comments in the article! :D

A little clarification on how this mess started. The article was first posted on ps3center.com

(it is removed now, but the URL tells you what the article was) with the date in the article. it was was fairly new and linked back to the import tuner website which had no date as to when the interview was posted. The interview was then posted on game Grep going on the date that was provided from ps3center as new. The article was then posted on oxcgn.com, which made its way to n4g and so on. So I think the main reason why this all started was that import tuner did not place a time date on their interview, thus confusing ps3center and causing a chain reaction. So no site is really to blame (unless you want to blame import tuner)

Brad

Why should we pull an article, . . . . while it may well be old, it is still news worthy and does point out inconsistancies with the developer on what he says he says and what he does say in interviews.

If it were about a Xbox title, we'd do the same, and have done the same. Do you see the Times pulling an article, or IGN, or GameSTop, GameIndustry News.biz . .no

They will however, place up "updates" that correct the information and offer links to verify said information. That in it's self give more credibility, than "pulling" an article.

It show's you're ready to stand by what you have posted, and willing to cop any flack for doing so. BUt it also shows you are willing to correct any misconceptions or misinformation that may appear.

Pulling an article does not do any site any justice whatsoever. In fact, we've gotten praise for sticking to our guns and posting updates and even making it public that we may have made an error, be it intentional, or not.

Some advice, be proud of what you write, stick by what you do write, and offer your readers an 'explaination' as to why a 'retraction' or an update has been posted. That way they know that are a site of "your word" . .not a site wanting to hide your mistakes . .

If that makes sense. BTW, I'm certainly not having a go at you, although, I am however a little stunned as to why you ( a site owner.writer) think it's wrong or odd a xbox site post information on a Sony title.

Especially when Sony/Nintendo sites do it all the time, or for the fact it's not about Sony per-se', but about a developer who just doesn't seem to be able to make up "his mind" as to when the game may be released, and makes 'conflicting" statements in different interviews.

This is why we 'record" all our interviews (with permission of course) . So we have irrefutable evidence of what has been said, and in what context.

Plus, with regard to the person being interviewed "laughing off" the statements . . . instead of simply 'correcting' his comments and saying, well no, after some thought, we do think we'll have it out in 2009 etc. . .

That would be far better than 'laughing it off, which others could construe as if he never made the initial comment, and that some sites were making things up . . . it's called publicity . . . again, not rying to cause problems, just make it clear that no one should hide from whatthey say, but own up to anything they may have said wrong publically. That alone build more creed than shying away from it, or pulling items off the page . .if that makes sense . . ?

Lol.. well I was also caught in this and posted an article about it, but when I realised the information was old, I pulled it... it;s going to leave a bad reputation makign people wonder about the quality and accuracy of your work...forget GameGrep, forget Import Tuner, let them take the heat for a foolish mistake. I think Yamauchi laughing of his own comments isn't really a big sweat. The timing between both statements was pretty far apart.

I guess if you initially say 2010, then come a while after and say 2009, and make a little joke about it...no problem...

@ Brad

I think the last update will shed light on not only this site having a great deal of confusion around the issue, but many other sites. It's more to do with Import Tuners manner of making the news public than anything else.

They were the ones to post the interview (albeit again) on Game Grep last week, 1.30hrs before this site posted it. It came directly from Import Tuner, and this article here is neither about PS3, but more to dod with a developer issuing updates rather than a full retail product years down the track.

I'm certainly not on a fanboi bandwagon, but a racing fan who's upset that a great game can be pushed around like this with little regard to those that make it a success in the first place. The supporters.

I think the link in the most recent update will shed a great deal of light on the subject. Hope that answers your questions.?

And IT posted it not just a "bit late" but try 6 months later, as it was only posted LAST WEEK on Game Grep (thurdsday just gone if I'm not mistaken) . . I'd say that qualifies for more than "a bit late" . .

Plus the interview doe shave Haz Ya stating it could see a late 2009 or 2010 release, then in further interviews, laughing off his OWN comments . . . So he in the end was the one making the comments, not Import Tuner or any other source.

If I or this site was a fanboi site, do you think that we'd 1) publish comments against us, 2) continue to update the article with links to verify the information given, and give credit to those sending us the information . .? No, didn't think so.
