* Update 2010: Here is some more info, screenshots, videos and discussion on this game at this link.
We all know more and more PC titles are now moving across to the console platforms, which is a great thing to see actually.
We (avid mature console gamers) would love just a small snippet of the excellent titles that are available for many of our PC gaming brethren. It has always seemed a wishful dream in the past, however there is now a great deal more evidence that many developers can see the merits of pushing their games on the ever broadening Home Console market, which is making its way into the homes and lounge rooms across the world in huge numbers daily.
One of the games to pop up on the OXCGN Radar Scope yesterday is Polish developer Flying Fish’s Hellion: Mystery Of The Inquesition.
“Our vision is to create a historical fiction game that will put the player in the center of the medieval world, full of its cruelty, intransigence and diversified beliefs. In this ruthless reality, the player will become an eyewitness of great political machinations, unseen brutality and betrayal. He will pave his way to the truth just to find that it is more horrible and dreadful than anyone could imagine.” says Simon Grabowski, CEO at Flying Fish Works.
As an armed man of the newborn Inquisition, the player will battle heretics, execute exorcisms, face demons and unintentionally become part of a political and religious intrigue. Realizing that all of mankind is standing on the verge of doom, he will have to use all the physical and spiritual abilities he ever acquired to face the fiends of hell and, finally, discover the Mystery of the Inquisition.
“Hellion” is an epic journey through different medieval cultures full of real-life characters, wild animals, rough warriors, powerful Templar knights, deadly assassins and, ultimately, horrifying demons.
The game’s conceptual art looks nothing short of amazing, and if they can take that concept and translate it into great gameplay, they could have a real winner on their hands.
* Update: A new Press release states that the game will come on all 3 major platforms, unlike the earlier press release, and news out of GamesPress.com where it had the game as PC/360 only at that time. Thanks to “gambare” from N4G for grabbing that bit of info, most appreciated.
One thing though, it doesn’t seem to be coming to the PS3 – sadly. There’s a few other PC-centric games also popping their heads up for the 360, but they too don’t seem to be being converted to the PS3 platform.
While fanboys on both sides will either clam victory or shout foul . . the sad fact is, some gamers miss out. The PS3 is an excellent platform but it does seem to be getting side-stepped from many of the major developers on titles that could share multiple platforms – for some reason. I’m certainly not here to say anything bad or surreptitious about the platform (PS3), it’s simply a sad space to be if some of these excellent titles do not make their way onto that platform . .
Here’s the press releases from yesterday, and late last year to refresh your memory, and an assortment of excellent concept art to whet your appetite. It has whet mine, that’s for sure, it looks beautiful.
