Forza 3 Update 4th July
Not a great deal to share at the moment, other than the following screens and a video from Forzamotorsport net.
The screens show some older tracks which will be a welcomed return, as they provided some of the best close racing competition in Forza 2. Plus we have the inclusion of Le Mans of course. It is an excellent high speed track and will lend its self to some of the tried and proven vehicles of all time.
Sure, many are returns, but like all racing linage, many cars race for years before moving on, and in some cases, still race in current form. We should be pleased to see the addition of Le Mans, and the high speed monsters. It would be nice to see some of the other stablemates in there like the Courage etc, but we’ll have to wait and see what is in store for us as the months unfold.
With over 400 cars (with DLC packs expect to see in excess of about 450 cars in Forza 3) the numbers of different models is going to be high. While Forza 2 was “advertized” to have 300 cars, it shipped with 305 and by the time the various packs were released, had a stable number of 350 cars all up, including all models and makes.
With Forza 3 being greater than Forza 2, we can expect more, based on a similar delivery style as previous. It worked then, it’ll work again. Extending the playability of the game over many months after release. We have the return of the different R Class cars again, which are brilliant. For those who complain about them, sorry, but that IS what racing is about.
Pitting your equally powerful car against others, where only droving and tuning skills separate the better drivers. Not the size of your turbo or how much rubber you have on the road. The bullshit stops when the flag drops is the old saying, and it has always been proven to be quite true. So get over it, the R1′ through to the R4′s will be in there – again.
We’ll have the UGC (User Generated Content) taking front stage much more than in Forza 2′s art styles that were applied to vehicles. These puppies are very well detailed now, with a huge increase in definition, clarity and detail not only in the cars themselves, but the trackside and interiors. Personally I’ll not be looking at how good my ride is at 200mph, I’ll be more focused on the next 2 corners approaching rapidly at a huge rate of knots in cockpit view thank you very much.
We have not only an advanced paint editor, but the new Video Editor and areas that Turn10 have some special things planned in the area of UGC . . Ideally, OXCGN may get its hands on a disc soon, and will publish my own personal hands on with the game, and even do a hands on comparison with several other new titles coming up to see how they all rank . . .
In the mean time, enjoy the screens above and the video from Turn 10 which will be included shortly today.
Forza 3 Update 25th June
Not a great deal to report at the moment people, Tuurn10 and MS are keeping very mum right now on the Forza 3 front. We ‘alomst’ had a Forza 3 event here in Sydney yesterday (24th June) but was cancelled at the very last moment by Microsoft’s PR arm Pulse.
We were invited to attend, and were to be privy to some new info, but alas, the pin was pulled at the eleventh hour. But we did learn that they are planning something big here in Oz, and we’ll definietly be part of it. There are things a-foot, but we are not allowed to mention those at the moment.
So to help those of you who haven’t had a chance, here’s the latest Forzamotorsport 3 Podcast for your enjoyment all the way from Turn10.

Forza 3 detailed update 8th June:
This being probably one of the most hit pages for Forza on google, we like to keep everyone happy with as much ‘insider’ stuff as possible.
So with this update we’ve combined with the Australian Xbox Team (InsiderX) in LA who did this great interview with John Wedl, Content Director on Forza 3 with “Jinx” (ex-Fragdoll Ashley Jenkins) who is now XboxLIVE online manager for Xbox Australia.
What’s in the vid? Well some very interesting revelations and it’s worth listening to the whole interview as Ashley’s questions really get John Wedl opening up on paint customisation, how even novices will be able to enjoy racing, crash rewind and more. So read, listen and enjoy!
• Australia’s Jinx (Ashley Jenkins – Xbox Aust Online Manager)
Forza 3 has – wait for it:
400 CARS
Cars have 4 times the texture detail than previously, so you’ll notice the small detail in such things as the wheel nuts, buttons on dashboards, stitching on seats, steering wheels, buttons on dashboards, consoles and even the writing on switches.
Detail like clearly seeing each small 24 LED lights in the Audi R8 headlamps that represents the Le Mans 24 hour Race that Audi are famous for. Bet you didn’t know that! This is even more proof that there will be a HUGE announcement coming on June 13th from trackside at Le-Mans.
Every one of those 400 cars has been meticulously detailed not only outside and inside, but “underneath” as well. Yep, you read it right, the underside of every car has been modeled correctly, with exhausts, gearboxes and mechanics in place where they normally would be, whether it is a Lamborghini, Ferrari, BMW or a VW GTi Polo.
Each car has 10 times the number of polygons as the previous iteration, making the visuals more ‘realistic’ than ever before. Just check out those details on the roadside. Yes, they are in-game screens pulled straight from gameplay.
100 tracks -
Hmmm, that’s one hell of a lot of tracks for any driver to have to play around with. Now if there’s one person out there that says, yeah but, what about so-n-so track, that’s not in there, then I say to you, go home, please, you’re a turkey who’s only looking to create an issue where there is none. If you’re a real car enthusiast, and 100 tracks can’t satisfy you, then you’re one greedy mug.
Tracks are even better than before. Forza 2′s tracks were generated even with the help of both topographical terrain maps as well as satellite images of the actual tracks right down to the shoulder, fall of the road and high spots.
Well Forza 3 goes even further, with greater draw distances and more trackside detail, which was missing in Forza 2 I must admit. But hey, who gives a rats arse when you’re doing 250mph coming off the downhill run into the hairy little chicane on Maple Leaf with 3 others right next to you, all trying to get the line.
Not me, that’s for sure (see my mix up with the Zonda at 190mph + I was SO luck there -and went on to actually pull a decent time as well) I’ll be enjoying the full simulation I can get from Forza 3, and paying little attention to those beautiful vistas, track detail, or blades of grass and rocks, nor those open cracks on the tarmac surfaces . . hmm, maybe I will pay attention to the open tarmac surface actually . . . don’t want to roll it now, do I.
Oh, did I mention you can actually roll the car, and you’ll see all those shiny pieces of car go flying everywhere . . .
50 Car Manufacturers
50 car manufacturers will be supplying the total 400 cars. Ahh yes, I can hear the GT5 boys in the background laughing going “…ha ha you’re ‘pawned’, GT 5 has 900 cars so there, Forza 3 = major fail!”-
To you I say, please, get a life. Forza 2 had 340 cars and that was way too many to own and race. I’ve spent over 500 hours on Forza 2, and there’s still cars I haven’t competitively driven. So having 400 is just fine for any “serious” racer to have fun with, while 900 is just plain old “overkill” – sorry, but it is.
Ppppfffttt – Come on, where and when are you going to race 900 cars in one games lifetime – honestly!
50 manufacturers will supply various models from their ranges, meaning that almost all major manufactures will be represented in some way in Forza 3. Sure, we may not get all the cars we might love, but hey, you have to draw a line someplace and say: enough is enough, lets get on with making the game, not a showroom full of cars for a game that takes forever to be released or work well.
New Features a-plenty
I hate Sims – They suck!
Well, for some they do, which is why for some gamers, many racing games can prove to be a right pain in the arse. They throw the controller away in disgust, and never return. They want the visual splendour and “feel” of a sim, but don’t want to have to actually “drive” like an expert racer.
Well to cater for those gamers, whether they are 6 years old or 60, Forza 3 now has One Finger Racing. Hmm…
Sounds scary doesn’t it, but no, it’s actually what Forza 3 calls ‘Auto-Braking’. This is where all you need to do is simply steer and make sure the car gets in and out of the corners, stays off the barriers and heads in the general direction of the finish line.
While you do that, Forza 3′s unique “Auto-Brake” will apply, release, feather the brake according to the track, angle and approach you are taking. It might not stop you from smashing right into another car, but I suppose that’s what those sorts of drivers want anyway.
Well you have it now.
No No No . . what about we Sim Nuts!!??
I can already see the forums and comments boxes lighting up everywhere. “We want real racing, not all that Assists-On bullshit – give us the Sim please”.
Settle down champ, the core racer is looked after even more in Forza 3. Not only are the tuning elements increased, but even tire wall flex has been taken into account now, so you not only can feel the cars shift under load, but that flex walls WILL affect the drivability of your ride (car), and thus your speeds on the tracks, all 100 of them (sorry, couldn’t help adding that again).
You’ll still be able to work out special vehicle set-ups for each track for each car, store those set-ups so you can add or remove them when you take the same car to different tracks, rather than re-tweak and tweet the setup every time.
• E3 Forza 3 Developers Demo
All the features you had before will be there, and even more. I know that there will be special engines out there that will also help you find the optimum tweaks for your ride based on tire, rim size, width, vehicle height, angle centre of gravity etc, like the brilliant Forza 2 Tuning Calculator I have used many times, and it’s worked a treat I might add. So expect that to get an overhaul from the people that run that site – all part of the greater Forza community.
What about the looks?
The paint editor was excellent last time, and Forza’s Turn 10 were SO impressed with what the community were turning out, even as early as 2 weeks into release, that they have upped the anti on the editor even further, allowing even more layers, flexibility and also some great new community treats for us all.
There will be leaderboards for car designs, HD Video compilations, photos etc so you can do your level best at what you do best. Video editing uses the new HD 1080p video editor, or the Photo Image Maker capturing HD 1080Pm images of your near-misses or stunning paint jobs. Using the newly enhance Paint Editor helps you expertly created liveries that you can take images of and share across the net – just like some ppl at OXCGN do heheh.
You will have your own place to “shine” in the sun, and will compete for King Of The Hill across the global visual design leaderboards. So while you might be a “smuck” on the track, you could be the best creator in visual effects, design or photography, and gain recognition that way, rather than creating chaos on the track out of pure frustration.
All in all, a great way for the community to grow even stronger.
For me this just means more nights at the paint editor (ahhh please) and knowing that what currently is a solid 2 million plus user base on Forza 2 STILL will combine with the newer users and move Forza 3 to the top of the racing car scene on any console or platform to date.
As always, as we find and gain new details, we’ll share them with you. We’re working on finding out some of those 100 tracks, outside the 3 being used in the demos of course. Ideally some will be Aussie greats like Bathurst, Phillip Island, Eastern Creek etc.
So OXCGN makes this promise to you, if it’s got anything to do with Forza 3, then we’ll have it here. If it’s not first, at least it WILL be detailed, it will be updated and it will be for the enthusiast, not the tire-kickers out there.
And of course, it goes without saying, Forza 3 WILL be the best racing sim on the market – bar none – and arrive this October (my best bet is still the 24th October, last Thursday in the month. But hey, I have been known to be wrong in the past – just don’t tell anyone – okay!).

wow. i never thought i could want a game more than MW2. this was always close but this pushed it so past MW2 on my wishlist. im definatly preordering the Gamestop VIP limited edition. looks like MW2 will have to wait till christmas. i have dreams about this game im not kidding either. and SUVs seem fun to drive.
Two things that had me jumping up and down for joy,(I’m not kidding everyone in our office must think I’m high after my little burst of excitement).
1: Rollovers….I must say it’s about damn time. The amount of excitment that will add is gonna be awsome. I can see the carnage now.
2: Cockpit View…..How many of us can actually say that we have sat in the finest motor cars on the planet. To be honest I don’t even know what the interior of a 911 GT3 looks like(one of my dream cars). Now I will be able to sit behind the virtual wheel of all of my favorite cars.
and each one has been remodeled completely down to the fine wors on the switches and leather trim, Many may well say – so- big deal. Well same can be said of GT5′s great detail on their cars, but we don’t. Because it makes the cars much more immersive when they look great, like they do in Test Drive Unlimited, Forz3, GT5, Grid PGR.
Without that detail, we are simply sitting in a box with a car on a stick, The details take that feeling away.
And being in in-car-view in Grid and spinning over the top of another car and landing on the roof is scary as well as amazing.
in the screens, there no drivers in the seat lol. Looks weirds
Don’t know which ones you’re looking at, but all the “driven” ones has drivers, all the ones taken with the in-car photos don’t as they are staged. Like you do when you paint a car, take it to a tack and take pics of it sitting on say the grass, or side of a track ect .. .
Check those of the Aston Martin and the other cars actually racinf and you’ll see drivers mate.
Here we go again, ‘best racing game on the market’, really?, Wait till Gran Turismo 5, NFS Shift, Split/Second and BLUR come out before you get too cocky and since when did 400 cars become better than 900 cars and why do people post this nonsense where they compare ‘their’ game to another game. Anyway FORZA fans are really over hyping this game we know that GT5 has most of the stuff except visual customisation. Plus does FORZA 3 have NASCAR and WRC?, Does Turn 10 have the experience of Polyphony Digital?, And GT5 will have damage so stop getting over confident and let ‘your’ game and the opposition’s game release and then we shall see.
GT series has never had damage, so I will believe it when I see it
No, Forza does not have NASCAR, The NASCAR game does nor does it have WRC. Colin Mc Rae DiRT 1/2 do, which is great and where they belong.
Each genre should stay within their own fields, otherwise each one must make sacrifices in some aspects in order to accommodate the other. Be that in physics, gameplay, visuals or vehicles.
And PLEASE, associating both GT5 and Forza 3 with the likes of Split-Second (which is a Arcade racer knock-off the likes of Burnout etc). NFS Shift (an semi-arcade game, and a good one at that, but NOT of GT or Forza levels), BLUR (an absolute bastardised game if ever I saw one, Bizarre have lost my respect as a decent car developer) etc is absurd. Those games are not in the same league as both Forza and GT . . .not by a country mile. Very different sub-genres altogether mate. Learn a little about the various genres before throwing them all in the same basket.
If you’re going to throw GT5 and Forza in with racing games, then you’d be throwing them in with the likes of V8 Supercar 2/3 of the past, V8 Superstars coming out of Italy this month, Race Pro which is definitely a racing sim and Grid to some extent, but is still arcade, but visually great and about RACING not damage and destruction. GT and Forza are about “Racing, racing the line and great looking manufacturers vehicles. Not nondescript vehicles that all look the same and blow things up . .
That’s what arcade racers are for, ppl like you. You probably play GT5 Pro to see how bad a crash you can have and how much mayhem you can cause, rather than trimming tenths of a second off times to become some of the best virtual race drivers online in the world like many gamers do in both Forza and GT.
And sorry, but the team behind Forza are in fact mostly racing drivers, mechanics and race enthusiast. just like those on GT5 . .so please, make sure you have the facts before throwing stuff around, and get your genres right before sticking your oversized foot in your mouth and showing everyone how biased and immature you are.
BLUR . . I nearly chocked on my dinner . . honestly . . you were joking – right???
Your point about Gran turismo’s 900 cars. The thing about them is that for some they have up to 50 different types of cars for the same model, and then they just say they are totally seperate cars. The thing with forza because of its massive customization is that this number could be endless for a particular model. I think in the end I would much prefer 900 cars, no doubt, its just that GT cons you into thinking that there will be 900 different models which isnt really true to a point. Variations of same models shouldnt count.
yes true, but I don’t know about you, but having spent 500 plus hours in Forza 2, painted a bucket load of cars, raced every track forwards, backwards etc and keep clipping thousandths of a second of times, I still have yet to modify all 350 Forza 2 cars or actually race each one “properly. Not just drive it around the track to get the “All Cars Drive Achievement”.
Even withthe game being almost 2 yrs old, there’s still lots to play with, now add that, to say 200 other games released in 2 yrs, and would you really have time to plauy properly with all 900 cars in ONE car?? not just plonk your backside in it, go around thetrack and say, Hey, I drove all 900 cars – whoppie-do!
Look at Grid, excellent fun game, limited cars in comparison, but balls-to-the-wall fun and there’s always a new way of using a car on a different track combination. Have you (anyone) driven every car in Grid on every track in full races and in the free race mode . . be honest here fellas, have you, 80-90% probably haven’t.
In the end it comes down to greed and wanting to have one-up-mans-ship on someone else. Which is fine, but having 400 (plus there WILL be additional DLC – I’m 100% certain of that even after the second disc loaded with different tracks and gear like the video editing program) cars in one game, 100 tracks – man, you’ll be doing really well to race half of those on each track variation in 6 months..
