Today is a special day for the majority of 360 gamers… today once again is Halo day. The day when some people stay up until the wee hours of the morning just to play their game first or for some of us more ‘sane’ people (like me) who wake up at around 9am… they might make it down to store sometime during the daytime to pick their shiny new copy of Halo: ODST.
So with glee I downed my bowl of Kellogg’s Crunchy Nut breakfast cereal (get on this people, its good stuff) as quick as I could. Jumped in the car and zoomed off to get my Collectors Pack of ODST.
As I am a sucker for anything Halo, while in EB Games I saw the official strategy guide and I just had to have it as well! EB Gamers were kind enough to give me a bonus ODST poster and a free Halo 3 Lanyard… YAY!
I drove home ran inside dumped the haul on my desk and…. took some photo’s. (yep, anticlimactic I know)
And here are the unboxing images. Apologies for the lowish res photo’s my good camera had no battery power left!
So here ’tis:
The package felt pretty good to hold, it felt like a well presented CE from the outside at least.
The strategy guide wont be opened until completion of the game, but it feels much more flimsy compared to the Halo 2 and Halo 3 strategy guides.
Upon opening the outer plastic casing, the contents slid out the front. I lifted off the plastic covering and removed the controller. Mmm Vomit Green!
The controller is very nice to look at. Its got quite a rough texture, compared to the Halo 3 limited edition controllers or even standard controllers. All those little designs are rough and raised a little off the controller. It feels quite good.
I am happy to report that so far the controller triggers DO NOT SQUEAK! Hopefully they don’t start after some decent use.
I ripped off the plastic covering of actual game, and opened it up.
Inside was a 48 hour trial, a little advertisement for the Halo: Reach Beta, and Halo: Legends anime, the manual, the Halo 3 multiplayer disc, and finally the actual Halo: ODST Campaign disc (clearly labelled!)
And that about wraps it up.
Overall its a pretty decent Collectors Edition, although it might have been nice to see an art book, soundtrack or maybe even a different box art (like they did with Halo 3 Legendary edition).
If you are wanting a new controller to perhaps replace that squeaky, rough and old white controller this could be a great purchase for you. But if you don’t want a new controller then stay away from this CE. I paid $129 for my collectors pack (JB Hifi’s price) and I am pretty satisfied.

They shouldn’t have been selling it until Wednesday, if they really were, they probably got fined big time.

i was going to buy this, but got need for speed shift instead.
I think it’s worth every Cent (or Penny for you Americans) I paid for it!
