Forza 3 Update 2nd October #2
OXCGN Forza 3 October Update #2 – Daily Vehicle News. Move Over – Mad Mazda #16 Lola Comin’ Through
In the world of Le Mans racing and enduro-racing, the Lola built racing machines are second to none.
Having had many different drivetrains, and building specialised vehicles for every major competitor, the Lola Company have made a huge name for themselves since 1958, and only recently celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2008.
In Forza 3, you’ll be getting your backside into one of the best machines there is available in that class, the #16 Lola B09/86 MZR Coupe, sister to its other twin, the #20 from Dyson Racing, which are currently running second in their class in the world series.
The R1 Class vehicle has an PI of R1-943, so basically all you’ll need to do is tweak the suspension to suit your driving skill-set. This machine will need a gentle hand (foot) on the accelerator, and timid use of the brakes. Especially when they have one of the highest brake ratings of the R1 class cars in Forza 3.
Lola celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2008. Very few companies can match Lola’s racing pedigree.
For the majority of that time, Lola has been the largest and most successful constructor of race cars, producing winning designs for virtually every category from Formula Ford and Sports 2000 to Formula 1 and Le Mans Prototypes. They have 37 class victories in the American Le Mans Series alone.
Befitting a company with 50 years of winning technology, the record of Lola’s current-generation LMP2 design – including class wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the last three out of four years – underscores Lola’s skill in creating a winning package for endurance racing.
Outstanding performance, drivability, and consistency combined with superior engineering, serviceability, and quality continue to make Lola successful on race tracks around the world.
For 2008, Lola took another step forward with their new LMP2 coupe model. The first customer car of its type, the B08/80 allowed race teams to exploit the coupe format’s potential in a package built around proven components and design features.
The 2009 B09/86 LMP2 Coupe is a one-piece carbon composite monocoque and is certified to ACO and FIA structural standards through 2012.
The body panels are of lightweight pre-preg carbon composite construction. The suspension is double wishbone with pushrod/rocker-activated coil spring/adjustable damper units all around.
The six-speed sequential gearbox is of lightweight cast magnesium and is designed to allow complete changes of gear ratios in ten minutes without losing any oil.
Mazda’s involvement in motorsports has been long and fortuitous with many winning records including gaining the 1986 Bonneville speed record of 238.44 mph which was set in Racing Beats’s RX-7. Mazda also gained the coveted 1991 24 Hours Of Le Mans in their Rotary y4 787B.
Mazda has always supported Motorsport, especially in America, where it remains the most-raced name in American racing history. Team Dyson’s two Lola’s (#16 – #20) compete in the American Le Mans Prototype 2 catergory races, so you’ll be in the hot seat of one of these great beasts.
Many would-be digital racers hate these cars because of their sheer speed, and what some say, undrivability. If anything, they can be the most drivable of all race cars, you have to simply come to grips (no pun intended of course) with the way these cars are designed.
They are not your everyday street car with a super powerful motor, ever fascist of the car from nose to tail has been built for speed and stability, you the driver are part of the, and you must become one with that car in order to obtain the best from it. This applies to any of the pure race-built cars in Forza 3.
The Lola B09/86 LMP2 Coupe is encased in a one-piece carbon composite monocoque which is of course certified to all ACO and FIA structural standards through to 2012. The body panels utilises the lightweight pre-preg carbon composite construction methods Lola have become known for.
The BP Dyson Racing Mazda coupes are powered by turbocharged 2.0-liter Mazda MZR-R engines prepared by Advanced Engine Research (AER) Ltd. Mazda MZR race engines produces in excess of 500 horsepower. The block features all-aluminum construction and is mounted as a semi-stressed member of the chassis via A-frames.
The Lola B09/86 MZR is the smallest, lightest and most compact in the LMP class and there are no external belt drives or ancillaries. The camshafts, water pump and oil pump are internally driven by gears.
The feisty 2.0-liter is backed by a six-speed sequential gearbox with a lightweight cast magnesium case that is designed to allow complete changes of gear ratios in 10 minutes without losing any oil.
You’ll be able to use that 6 speed sequential via Fantec’s great Porsche 911 Steering wheel which can come with the 6 speed sequential shift if you wish as an option. We will have one of these babies up for garbs this year, so stayed tuned for that. The Dyson Racing Teams Mazda Lola #16 will give you the chance to really show what you’re made ofwith the rest of your friends on XboxLIVE when the game is released.
