With less than a week away from 2K Games‘ release of the award winning second game in the Bioshock series we have a newly released “Bioshock 2 Official Release Trailer” (see second trailer below) for you, as well as some in-game footage where we explore the beautiful, yet treacherous, underwater world of Rapture.

There we will be fighting off other Big Daddies, taking Little Sisters under our arms, well, on our shoulders, and trying to beat off the new menace, the Big Sisters, and boy, is she a ‘bitch’ to deal with . . .

They, by the way, are not the easiest to deal with or kill, even for a burrly Big Daddy like you are now. Just check this out, especially the last segment . . . damn she’s quick . . . even electrocution didn’t stop her . . . bugger.

• Bioshock 2 Siren Alley – actual gameplay

As always, 2K Marin and 2K Australia have produced a game that is sure to knock all the punters’ collective socks off, and set the level even higher for gameplay, immersion and drama this time around.

From what we have seen, both first with some firsthand hands-on time with the game, and via screens and videos, this game will surely find its home in many gamer’s cabinets for months to come. I’m kind of hoping that it will do even better than the first iteration actually, setting the scene for the follow-up in the next of the proposed trilogy.

I know that it will be sitting proudly next to my first edition, awaiting the following game in the series.

• Bioshock 2 Official Release Trailer

As you can see by the video of Siren Alley, which is an assortment of actual user in-game play as Big Daddy, you fight your way along the corridors of areas within Rapture, as a Little Sister helps you find and harvest Adam, as you fend off Wall Crawlers and Splicers of all types, and as our little charge extracts the precious Adam from the special corpses laying about.  You go around setting traps, turning some to ice and smashing them as they jump towards you, while pinning others to the wall with a huge speargun from a Rapture modified gun.

Not a pleasant sight that is for sure, and these days it’s a wonder it even got past Australia’s very strict OLFC board.

But then, they have calmed down recently, ever since SEGA told them to take a running jump with their last game Bayonetta, threatening to NOT release the game at all if they had to change it .  Guess what? The game was released unchanged .  Sometimes it pays to stand your ground and defend your principles. Thankfully 2K Games didn’t have to go down that route with Bioshock 2.

Just watching the water flowing, the deep hues and vibrant colours of the inside of Rapture, the fine detail added to even littlest of things that count in a game, you can see the amount of work that has gone into this iteration. While Bioshock 1 set some high standards for others to follow, winning huge industry praise and recognition along the way, I do believe Bioshock 2 will do the same this time in 2010.

Naturally OXCGN will have an in-depth review on the game, plus some follow-up articles on the city of Rapture and the characters within the city you, as a Big Daddy, will need to explore and deal with. Just make sure you keep your eyes and ears peeled for those nasty Big Sisters. They are 10 times more agile than you, and can delivery devastating blows, even with your heavy armouring and strong weapons cache.

Just remember the story of David and Goliath- Goliath and his army thought he was invincible due to his sheer size, but one little boy fell him, just like the Big Sister can drop you Mr. Big Daddy in Rapture.

So tread carefully my fellow gamers . . . it won’t be as easy as you may think it will be . . .

Make sure you visit the Cult Of Rapture Fan site 2K Games have.
