Game Informer Is Now Australia’s Top Gaming Magazine

The world’s biggest gaming magazine reaches Australian milestone

2IC’s comment: OXCGN staff love reading gaming mags, but with our newsagent shelves full of UK or US months-old imports or gaming mags that are overly expensive with limited Aussie content, we haven’t been given much to choose from.  Australian Game Informer magazine is new on the scene and proving that the internet hasn’t killed printed media, especially if you price your product well.  OXCGN congratulates GI on its success.

Citrus Media announced today a milestone achievement for new gaming magazine Game Informer Australia. The magazine has amassed 10,000 subscribers, the first local video game publication to achieve the feat. This stunning result was posted in only 188 days following the magazine’s launch on November 13, 2009. Preliminary figures also show that Game Informer Australia has rocketed to be the country’s #1 video games magazine, double the sales of its nearest competitor.

Jim Flynn, Director of Citrus Media is thrilled that Australia has embraced this world class magazine “Game Informer is the 12th largest overall consumer publication in the US with over 3.6 million subscribers, so when we launched Game Informer Australia in November we knew that we had a world class magazine at an unbeatable price. This has come to fruition with Game Informer Australia rocketing to the top of Australia’s video game magazine market”.

Jim believes the key to success was providing a genuine quality magazine that incorporates unique Australian content; “The key to our success really rested on providing quality local content to complement the world exclusives already in the magazine. The fact we have been able to reach 10,000 subscribers in just 188 days shows that Australia has whole heartedly embraced our unique version of this world renowned magazine.”

Local editor Chris Stead was delighted, but not surprised by the result: “I’ve launched a number of game publications in Australia and never received such a warm and enthusiastic response. Australian gamers are very cautious about new products and thrifty with how they spend their money: to post such an amazing result vindicates the hard work we’ve put into making Game Informer an Australian mag. We’re breaking a number of world exclusives each issue, while pushing the local industry onto the global stage and delivering an editorial tone that’s attractive to the entire gaming demographic. All for $4.95.”

Game Informer Australia’s team of Chris Stead and Adam Mathew make the most of the content that Game Informer generates all over the world, but the focus is 100% on Australia. Their mission: “To give Australian gamers the respect they deserve by getting them access to the biggest and best world exclusives first, and to ensure that the local scene gets representation in the world’s number one gaming publication.”

Game Informer’s sixth issue is out now, featuring the world first exclusive information on upcoming blockbusters Gears of War 3, LittleBigPlanet2 and Guitar Hero 6, as well as an exposé on the pricing of games in Australia. Customers can pick up an issue for only $4.95 from EB Games, all newsagents or Coles supermarkets. Subscriptions can be made through Magshop or EB Games stores.
