Activision has upped the ante in the Collector’s Edition stakes with their Black Ops Prestige Edition, which is available to Australians on a very limited basis.  EB Games Australia has listed the Prestige Edition as a  ’1 per customer’ with free shipping offer, but will the hefty AUD$228 price tag scare financially stretched collectors already getting the Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood Codex or Halo Reach limited editions away?

And if hardcore game collectors do buy the Prestige Edition, which astoundingly includes a remote-controlled spy car with video and audio, will they resist the temptation of taking the car out of the box and playing with it?  It sure would be a shame to not get to use it, but then collectors like to keep things unopened in boxes.

The big question, though, is if Activision has released the greatest ever Collector’s Edition of a game, eclipsing Modern Warfare’s night vision goggled version, or has it found the perfect method of milking more money from gamers?

They even give you a medal for paying for it.  How’s that for ‘feel good’ marketing?

It sure is a cool release though, and even though I’m not that enthusiastic about the game, that remote-controlled vehicle is sure attractive…
