It’s always a treat when THQ Australia invite us along to wherever they have booked out for a night of friendly drinks, hot food, free swag, nice looking girls as well as getting hands-on with their latest title.
This time there was a little extra surprise on the side that just made the whole night worth while. As we also treated to an advanced screening of Resident Evil: Afterlife in glorious 3D at Bondi Junctions VMAX Cinemas, which is regarded as the #1 cinema in Australia at the moment.
With regards to a review on Resident Evil: Afterlife, well I’ll leave that for another article, but be warned, this is not a thinking man’s movie, as it is riddled with ridiculous twists, and odd plot, plenty of over-the-top slow-mo sequences that would make The Matrix jealous and some one liners that by god, you would honestly not expect real people utter or to be that stupid. But as they say, ‘that’s another story’.
With the movie out of the way the public (who were attending due to winning tickets via competitions through IGN.au and Gamespot.au) along with the various Australian gaming journos were all treated to free alcohol, food and a healthy 2 hours of zombie-killing-fun of Dead Rising 2 madness and head smashing mayhem.
There was a wonderful array of semi-zombie-dressed females with suitable attire and zombie facepaint walking the floor serving alcohol to the various patrons, along with the THQ PR team who had dressed up as zombiefied doctors for the event, not to mention various public attendees dressed up in their best blood drenched ripped clothing.
Free Zombrex Survival Guide posters were everywhere and I can honestly say that the night ended rather well, although it would of been awesome if that massive Dead Rising 2 statue was some where lurking in the shadows.
THQ, humble as always, were friendly and chatty towards anyone who had any questions, or who were simply looking for a decent chat regarding gaming, Dead Rising 2 or anything for that matter. It’s great to see the gaming PR team mingling with the everyday gamers of the current generation, as it not only gives a positive reflection towards the company as a whole, but leaves the public with a feeling of accomplishment.
They came, they saw, they played, they got free stuff, had loads of fun, and they left happy and appreciative of the huge effort that was put in to organizing an event such as this. THQ’s Alan Moore and Paul Houlihan always go out of their way to make any THQ event spectacular, they certainly did so this evening, yet again.
Almost everyone that attended the night walked away with something. Whether it was a Resident Evil figurine, any of the Resident Evil movies on blu ray, game back packs, Zombrex Survival Posters or even won a special copy of the game via the Under The Seat Competition which were held in the cinema earlier on.
With regards to Dead Rising 2, well there’s not much to say about it really right now. Reviews will be pouring in for the game as you read this, and OXCGN will hve it’s lengthy review up in several days.
It’s the sequel to Dead Rising, developed by Blue Castle Games and allows you to kill literally thousands of zombies in any way you wish via combining different weapons. The prequel Dead Rising: Case Zero has already been released as a DLC style game some weeks ago to whet the appetites of Dead Rising fans the world over.
There will be a follow-up DLC game, Dead Rising: Case West released some time after the retail release of Dead Rising 2, which should carry the game even further, and give gamers even more fun at killing zombies.
While the game is not as big as say Halo: Reach, Call Of Duty: Black Ops or even the likes of Modern Warfare 2, but it sure as hell will provide endless hours of non stop brutal fun for anyone who loves to relax and just enjoy killing zombies by any means at their disposal.
It’s not meant to be a narrative masterpiece by any means, just an excuse to get your hands bloodied with a baseball bat, chainsaw, kitchen chair or coathanger for that matter. Basically it is designed to just have some fun.
Graphically there is nothing super special about this iteration, but hey when you’ve got hundreds of zombies on the screen all at once at your disposal clamouring to dispatch you as fast as possible, then graphics are the least of your problems really.
Now with this excellent Dead Rising 2 event out of the way, it’s now time to look forward to THQ’s annual arrival of their Smackdown vs Raw 2011 franchise which, if last year is anything to go by, will be yet another night of furious-fistycuff-fun to enjoy from the great PR team for THQ.
Aussie’s are fun-lovin-people, so at least here in Australia, most attendees will come dressed up as their favourite wrestler, and it’s aways a good laugh to see who creates their own style wrestler for the night as well.
It will be yet another night for us of fun and frivolity, along with a chance to win more prizes, eat great food, and partake of some good old fashioned free Aussie alcohol, not to mention getting our dirty little mits on the game and the chance to win other WWE goodies from the guys from THQ Australia.
THQ have some massive titles heading our way very soon, some of which I’m personally looking forward to. Such as Homefront, Warhammer 40K Space Marine and of course, Red Faction: Armageddon.
Which are the 3 other main games that I am looking forward to like no-mans-business, bring then on guys.
One thing is for sure, it’s an excellent time to be a gamer here in Australia!
But until the next THQ event, happy-zombie-fest everyone!! Now where is that disc . . . .
