The Very Best Pre-Order Bonuses

Homefront, THQ‘s epic tale of a Korean occupation of the United States, is nearly upon us.

As the game slowly shapes up to be better and better every time we hear about it, you’re probably eager to pre-order it to secure your launch date copy.

But, before you do that, I strongly advise you to check out the three deals I found that give you the most bang for your buck.

While most major retailers are offering their own pre-order bonuses, these three in particular are steals that shouldn’t be missed.

1: Steam

I wonder how that monster got inside of his helmet...

Available for pre-purchase now (hopefully with a preload soon!), Steam offers an extremely nice deal for Homefront.

By pre-purchasing Homefront via Steam, you will receive a free copy of Metro 2033, and an in-game version of the eye-covering bandanna from the game’s cover as a hat in Team Fortress 2.

That’s a $90 value (from Steam’s prices) and definitely a steal if you never tried Metro 2033; I was a huge doubter of the title, but decided to give it a whirl. Needless to say, I haven’t been this immersed in a shooter in a VERY long time (just make sure you have the PC to run it!).

2: Best Buy

Hopefully you won't be wearing these when Korea invades the US.

Rivaling the Steam deal, Best Buy offers you not a game, but a full headset!

Really, now. When’s the last time you got something this good by pre-ordering something?

The Xbox 360 version features a Homefront-themed traditional style headset, while the PlayStation 3 version features the same design, but as a Bluetooth headset.

Considering the fact that headsets are slightly expensive, it’s a very good deal, since the multiplayer is looking to be among the best out there.

Let’s just hope that they’re good quality and not cheap knockoffs.

3: OnLive

In the future, everything is black.

By this point in time, you’ve undoubtedly heard of OnLive, the “future” of gaming.

If you’re unfamiliar, for a subscription fee each month, you don’t download games, you stream them off of computers in distant databases to your home TV or computer. It prevents the need for expensive PCs or consoles… if you have an extremely good internet connection.

Living in Louisiana and having a 3MB internet connection does not agree with OnLive and the “future” but if you have something really fast, I’d really suggest this offer.

The deal is, if you pre-order Homefront, you get both a “microconsole” (the home version of the system to hook up to your TV for the streaming process) and Metro 2033 for your streaming purposes.

Not too shabby, considering the microconsole is around $100USD and once again, Metro is $40. So, for $50, you’re getting $190 worth of items!

Home Is Where The War Is

With just under a week to go, hopefully you’ll have secured some promotional goodies.

Even if Homefront flops, at least you got a free game, headset, and/or a piece of the future.

  1. Steam’s also offering a day-one unlock of the Air Assault Drone in multiplayer.
