First Images and Analysis!

WarHawk was one of the first big PlayStation 3 exclusives, releasing the summer after the console got into public hands.

It sucked me in as soon as I first played it, whiling the hours away to create one of the most entertaining summers (and the subsequent school year) of all time.

Dylan Jobe and his team behind the title have been hard at work on StarHawk, an “unannounced” title. We know it’s in development, but that’s about it. They haven’t shown off anything for fear of it not being good enough… and so we waited.

Until now.

Ready the hype machine

1)

The four images are in this article, throughout the sides. Showcased in the leaked images is much of the improvements in the engine, as well as content.

The first that we have placed shows a soldier firing an assault rifle as explosions (and lasers) rain hell upon the battlefield.

In the explosion to the far left, an object can be seen. Shrapnel? Drop pod? The top right corner shows the very edge of a spacecraft, possibly a capital ship of sorts that involves the new space combat (as the name implies).

A planet can be seen on the far left edge of the still.

2)

Image number two has a jeep-esque vehicle taking fire from a new mech vehicle.

The environment appears to be in an underground cave or cavern of sorts, with something that looks like a pipeline in the background.

More on the mech in the close-up screenshot.

The bullets hitting the jeep obscures a clear view of the driver seat, but from the way the tires are positioned and from the lack of dust around the wheels, we can assume that the vehicle was not in motion. Mr. Gunner was just relaxing while enjoying his new-found love of machine guns.

3)

The third image is definitely the most interesting of the bunch. Making an appearance is some sort of super-looking character. We do know that StarHawk will have a single-player component, so it could possibly be a boss.

Whatever he is doing constitutes much of the map’s attention, as smoke can be seen billowing behind him and the sky is a dramatic color. What looks like a destroyed/abandoned base is behind him.

Maybe he’s super character to reward players who do well in the multiplayer mode, like the Jedi in Star Wars: Battlefront II?

4)

Lastly, the fourth image contains the most action out of them all. A mech appears to be taking fire, while a massive battle rages.

Soldiers in traditional Eucadian uniform are taking aim at the machine, no doubt in part to the aid of whatever is firing its lazer.

In the center towards the right, a light blue/green light node can be soon. A capture point? Health pickup? Maybe even a teleporter? The soldier in the far left appears to be standing by quite an interesting door, or he is coming out of some sort of bubble shield.

And lastly, of course… the mech. If you look closely, his arms are the wings of an aircraft. This means irrefutably that aircraft can now transform into mechs at will, favoring WarHawk’s multi-level-warfare philosophy.

Play beyond [the boundaries of typical warfare]

StarHawk is looking to be one of the most interesting games of 2011, if it releases this year.

Dylan Jobe and the creative minds behind the title have been pouring their hearts, minds and souls into the title. Their hard work and dedication is quite evident.

With the official reveal of these screenshots in under a day and a whole unveiling of the game soon, how do you think StarHawk is shaping up? It will undoubtedly steal many more precious hours of my life away for an indefinite amount of time whenever I can get my hands on it.
