The Electronic Entertainment Expo, known as E3 for short, is the biggest event in the gaming world.

Developers, publishers, and most prominently, press, come from all over our small Earth to see the groundbreaking announcements and advances in gaming, technology and entertainment.

E3 is a trade show and industry-only event, which means only members of the aforementioned groups can physically attend the event.

But that’s not stopping you, the gamer. After all, E3 wouldn’t be around if it weren’t for you!

Here is a list of the best places to stream E3, so you’ll be at the front lines of the press conferences and announcements.

Primary sources

I’m going to direct you toward every single avenue of approach, to be on the forefront of gaming news (and possibly, history).

That’s not to say every single one of them is the best. Here is a list of nearly every available way to watch the show, with my personal preferred ones being listed after.

IGN (All) - Linked is the E3 portion of the IGN site; the direct stream can be found here.

G4 (All) - G4 streamed their first year, 2008, on their site very successfully. 2009 was an abysmal failure, and 2010 not much better. But, depending on your television services, you can also catch G4′s stream of E3 more comfortably on your TV set, although there IS commercial interruption.

Gamespot (All) – Good, reliable stream, but usually a little behind most other streams.

Gametrailers (All) – Very reliable stream, on par with IGN; no full-screen this year, though.

Spike (Microsoft only, TV only) – Spike typically streams only the MS conference, although I may be wrong this year. Very good way to watch the Microsoft keynote, although you run the risk of commercial interruption.

Xbox.com (Microsoft only) – Their first year streaming, and many will likely flock here; I do not recommend relying on this one.

Sony (Sony only) – Another stream in its infancy, there is no guarantee as to how good the quality will be nor the reliability. (And with Sony’s recent happenings, reliability is zero. Bah dum tish!)

Nintendo (Nintendo only) – Once again, a company-specific stream that is still in its infancy. Many, as with the Xbox.com one, will flock here, and a laggy stream is to be expected.

Uplay (Ubisoft only) – Another place streaming for the first time. To be honest, if I were you, I’d keep this one as a backup if the other streams fail, as I doubt many will want to make a Uplay account if they don’t already have one.

Preferred sources

Out of the master list above, here is the order from best to worst of how I would take it all in. All based on previous experience.

  • Primary, first and foremost: IGN.
  • Backup for when IGN inevitably crashes: Gamespot
  • If the above fail: Gametrailers
  • If all else fails: G4 (website)
  • If all else fails and World War 3 begins: Individuals (Uplay, Xbox.com, etc)

Comrades, E3 is nearly upon us.

With this information, you just may survive the year’s most epically overwhelming event.

Godspeed, gentlemen and gentlewomen… and may the best company win.
