Regardless of how commercially successful the Call of Duty franchise is, no one can deny that it’s getting a bit stale.
Today, a dedicated group of fans have decided to show off their pitch for a new game in the series, entitled Police Warfare.
Surprisingly, it’s very fleshed out and seems to be a very promising concept.
Jaw = dropped
It’s all broken down in a trailer, which you can view on YouTube here, or watch the embedded version below.
To put it simply, it’s a fantastic concept.
It compares itself to Battlefield 1943, and would be a downloadable title on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network.
From a business perspective, this would be instant money for Activision as it could beat the records set by 1943, and also breathe new life into the franchise.
Controversy? It even could have that! It proposes that players would play on both sides, and we all know the non-gaming masses love games about gunning down members of law enforcement.
What particularly intrigues me is the gameplay innovations it could bring to the table. Don’t get me wrong: Kane and Lynch: Dead Men and Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days were abysmal pieces of trash that should never have been made.
Regardless, I found the multiplayer mode in the first title to be very enjoyable and intriguing. Players would all start off on the same team, playing as crooks. The goal was to amass as much money as possible, letting no one stand in your way.
The catch?
If you die, you respawn as a police officer. The second catch? There’s nothing stopping you from turning on your teammates at any time and taking their spoils for yourself.
It was a great concept, and if something similar were to be employed here, I would go absolutely crazy.
A dream
Would Activision go with a concept like this?
Or is it too risky to delve form the formula that the masses already know and love?
Is it possible to innovate in the first person shooter genre anymore?
