OXCGN staff writer Chris Fox files his reports on Gamescon continuing with Capcom’s offerings.

Capcom kicked off 2012′s Gamescom in Cologne, Germany with no live stream but plenty of exciting news nonetheless.

They began with…

A solid lineup

Devil May Cry

Ninja Theory‘s reboot of this classic was shown to the attendees in the from of a new trailer and a new gameplay demo. On top of this, a new/returning character was teased. This old face was then revealed to be a rebooted Vergil.

The exciting trailer concluded with the reveal that Vergil is the leader of the New Order and he and Dante were seen to have a tense standoff. DmC looks massively manic, incredibly insane as well as true to the combustive combat mechanics of old.

I hope the fanboys have got over Dante’s redesign by this point and are anticipating this game as much as I am. Raptor News Network TV (Fox News Parody) was also featured prominently and label our hero Dante a terrorist. Dante flips them the bird asking them what kind of spin they’ll make of that. The new Dante is so in your face!

DmC is released January 2013.

Street Fighter Cross Tekken Vita

The DLC for the upcoming Vita version of this hybrid beat ‘em up will only require you to purchase DLC once across both systems.

This is very good news and definitely makes buying the handheld title a lot more worth it. As well as this, SFxT Vita boasts 55 characters. It is also Street Fighter’s 25th Anniversary this year and producer Yoshinori Ono entered dressed as Blanka clutching a birthday cake.

Mini Blanka cakes were handed out and Yoshi-San took a picture of everyone performing a Shoryuken. A very mean joke about Street Fighter V was teased next, but the less said about that the better. Happy birthday Street Fighter!

Resident Evil Net

Resident Evil is jumping aboard the social network connectivity train, much in the same way Call of Duty and Battlefield have done recently. Resident Evil Net does everything from tweeting you if you’re score is beaten to hosting community events like kill 100,00 zombies.

Smartphone apps are also coming to take the RE experience on the go (as is the thing to do these days). The best sounding part, however, is that championship belts can be won for online events that then must be actively defended. This is VERY COOL.

Along with all this, collectibles and documents unlocked in Resident Evil 6 can be closely examined on REN too.

New Resident Evil 6 gameplay showing Jake and Sherry Birkin was shown next, featuring Birkin (first seen in RE2) demonstrating a unique healing ability.

Remember Me

It’s crazy that new IPs get everyone as excited as they do. It just shows how few of them there are these days. Remember Me from Dotnod Studios (featuring folk who’ve worked on Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six and Heavy Rain) is just that.

In Neo-Paris 2084, people’s memories are being erased. That used to be our protagonist Nilin’s job, but now it’s happened to her.

Nilin, with no memory or clue as to why she has been targeted by her old company, must climb, control time and use her unique ‘Memory Remix’ power to get her identity back. A promising premise. The game looks like a cross between Deus Ex, Mirror’s Edge and Uncharted.

So, based on that alone, look for the greatest game of all time in 2013.
