So what do you do? You damn well pre-order your copy, that’s what you do. Especially with the goodies they throw in these days to do so.
So you’re shopping around, looking for the best deal, when you find it…
The Limited Edition.
Not only do you get the game you were after, but you also get all this cool extra stuff too.
Most “Limited Editions” come in a fancy case with an artbook, but every once in a while a major title will release a special edition that comes chock-full of goodies.
Whether your shopping for yourself or for others, here are some Limited Edition packs coming out between now and Christmas that would be ideal gifts come holiday time (even if just for yourself!).
Which upcoming Limited Edition do you think is the best? Vote below in our poll, or suggest one we missed.
Assassin’s Creed 3 – Freedom Edition
The third main installment of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series, smartly named Assassin’s Creed III, has a Limited Edition packed full of goodness. The “Freedom Edition” includes a 24cm figurine of the main character Connor, perfect for taking up space on someone’s shelf.
Also included is a steelbook case art drawn by awards-winning comic artist Alex Ross. George Washington‘s notebook is included, revealing all the juicy information about the Assassins and the Templars during the American Revolution.
The edition also features one exclusive Lithograph just as something a little extra.
Finally, the Freedom Edition contains some in-game bonus content for both single player and multiplayer:
- Single Player Mission: Lost Mayan Ruins
- Single Player Mission: Ghost of War
- The Sharpshooter Multiplayer Package
If that seems a little too much for you, there is also a “Join or Die” Edition which includes George Washington’s notebook, a Medallion, and the same in-game content (excluding Lost Mayan Ruins).

Halo 4 Limited Edition
The Limited Edition will include the “War Games” pack, which features nine multiplayer maps. Players also get early access to six Specialisations to use in multiplayer, available from launch day, as well as the UNSC Briefing Packet.
Also included is the Special Edition of Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, which features a Making Of video, as well as extra background information on characters. There is also a special featurette entitled: Bringing Gaming into Reality.
Finally, there is digital content available on Xbox LIVE. This includes weapon skins, avatar props and outfits.
If you haven’t got a 360 console yet or are keen to get a Halo Limited Edition one and missed out on the Halo 3 or Halo: Reach ones, there’s the Halo 4 Limited Edition 360 console coming too.

Borderlands 2 Deluxe Vault Hunter’s Collector’s Edition
The pack includes a Marcus Kincaid Bobblehead for those figurine lovers out there, as well as 4 exclusive stickers, supposedly to stick onto things.
Players will also receive a Map of Pandora, to hopefully stop them pausing the game to check where they are going all the time. There is also a Comic Book download, as well as Inside the Vault: The Art of Borderlands 2 Hardbound Book.
Finally included is extra bonus digital content. As if Borderlands 2 wasn’t going to be big enough, they go ahead and give us all more stuff to go through.
Resident Evil 6 Collector’s Edition
There is also a Resident Evil Hardback Artbook for those picture lovers.. PS3 owners get a little extra with an exclusive Dynamic Theme.
The edition also features RE6 Force Emblems based on the various organisations within the game.
For those on the go, also included is an Ivy University, Tall Oaks Hooded Sweatshirt (unfortunately one size only).
All of this comes bundled in a “Needle Bomb” Collector’s Box, which includes lenticular images, which indeed does sound fancy.
Hitman: Absolution: Deluxe Professional Edition
This pack includes a cool looking 10″ Vinyl Statue of Agent 47, to go along with the rest of your Limited Edition figurines.
It also includes a Making Of DVD, as well as a Concept Artbook. Owners will receive special DLC, the Agency Gun Pack. I’m going out on a limb and guessing it may contain firearms of some sort.
Finally, there is access to the Hitman Sniper Challenge, a standalone game where you can build your skill and unlocks, then transfer them over to Absolution.

Far Cry 3 Insane Edition
Along with the game, the Insane Edition features an Exclusive Survival Kit. This kit includes yet another Bobblehead, featuring a 12cm Insane Vaas Wahine.
There is also a survival guide, featuring exclusive artwork and information, as well as access to digital content to discover all the secrets of Far Cry 3.
There is also bonus in-game content, which includes:
- Monkey Business: Features a new character and quest giver, with four exclusive missions.
- Lost Expeditions: Two bonus missions including a World War 2 Flare Gun.
- Hunter Pack: M700 Rifle and 3 skins.
- Warrior Pack: New dagger and two tribal tattoos.
- Predator Pack: Four rare predators and a bow for multiplayer.
