Today Microsoft announced that one of the year’s most hotly anticipated games, Call of Duty Black Ops 2, will be bundled with an Xbox 360 console.
Available from November 13th 2012, the Call of Duty Black Ops II bundle includes a 250GB console, controller, headset and the game for AU $499.00.
Call of Duty games have always attracted a big following and now those who have waited until late in the console cycle to jump in can join their mates who already play previous titles on the 360.
360 Bundle War
This bundle adds to the already announced Halo 4 Xbox 360 Limited Edition bundle, which includes a custom designed 360 console, 2 custom Halo 4 wireless controllers with blue LED lights and a D-pad, 320GB HDD, Halo 4 Standard Edition game, Xbox LIVE code for bonus Halo 4 downloadable content, wired headset, and custom sounds when the console is turned on and when the Eject button is pushed- all at $AU 499.00
As the Halo franchise is also hugely popular, it will be interesting which console new adopter or upgrading gamers choose.
Bundles have been a big feature of the 360 console late in the year and is something that helps propel sales.
Last year there was the Limited Edition Modern Warfare 3 360 console bundle and earlier this year the Star Wars Kinect 360 bundle was finally released after initially being announced as a product for the 2011 Christmas season.
If Microsoft is providing a variety so gamers have a choice of bundles, why don’t Sony and Nintendo also release more Limited Edition or varied bundles?
What are the potential negatives of releasing so many bundles? Do some simply not sell?
Where’s the Big PS3 Bundle?
I admit to being a bit surprised by the lack of competition from Sony’s PS3 so far with Limited Edition PS3s which would most likely fare equally well.
I would happily have upgraded for an Uncharted 3 themed bundle last year and would love to see an Assassin’s Creed themed console.
Sony has done regular bundles before though, and we may yet see some announced for the Christmas season.

Man, I have a ps3 but I would really like to get an Xbox 360 for my birthday. My friends urge me to get the halo 4 bundle but my dad won’t let me which is a shame becuz I think that ps3 is terrible compared to Xbox so I will just save enough and wait until my b-day to get a bo2 bundle or a halo 4 bundle.
