Gamers dress up for video games show

Some people find other people who dress up as make-believe characters, be they medieval knight re-enactors at the Caboolture Abbey Medieval Fayre or sci-fi fans dressed up elaborately as movie or tv characters at Supernova, as a bit out of kilter with what is considered ‘normal’. A bit odd even.
Anyone watching tv’s ‘Bondi Vet‘, Dr. Chris Brown, participating in the medieval fayre for The Living Room show would have seen the surfy hunk shocked at how seriously people take dressing up in a role. He was certainly way out of his comfort zone, and didn’t seem keen to do it again.
Perhaps he should have been sent to cosplay at Sydney’s EB Games Expo.
In Japan cosplay is an art and in North America Halloween has long made dressing up fun, so cosplay wouldn’t seem as odd in their cultures, but in Australia the activity is still far from mainstream.
But it is gaining a lot of followers, and many of them took to the EB Expo floor to show off their devotion to their favourite gaming character.
Below are some shots from the Expo by photographer Jesse Coppel. Enjoy.
