I’m very surprised that the fate of ARMA 3‘s developers isn’t being more publicized.

To make a very long story short, they took pictures of an actual airbase — a base which is even viewable on Google Earth — and were thrown in jail for espionage.

What follows is a handwritten letter they sent to a community site.

Gamers, we now have our equivalent of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.‘s “Letter from a Birmingham Jail.”

The situation

The full scan is on the right, but the text is below.

Dear Friends,

We would like to thank you for the ongoing support of our case. After tiring two months, it is important for us to hear (well, read) words of encouragement and to learn that we are not forgotten.

We are treated well, but we feel we should rather be with our families than here. Your effort makes it easier to handle: we enjoy the postcards, community news, pictures and puzzles which are being regularly sent by this website’s magnificent staff. It seems it will take some time before we could return home and there is certainly much to overcome.

We do our best to stay optimistic and use this time well: we read, we walk, we chat and discuss and Martin even does some P.T. (physical training?). We’ve already walked hundreds of kilometers, read thousands of pages, but our thoughts are always with our families, friends and people who help us in any way.

We should also thank everyone who joined the petition! 14,000 signatures is truly amazing number, which makes us hope for the best regardless of the hardships.

With best regards from windy Greece,

Ivan & Martin

I’m not crying

I don’t know about you guys, but that brought a tear to my eye and makes my heart heavy.

Do some good and sign the petition to free them here.

No one deserves this, and our hearts go out to Ivan, Martin, and their families.

I'm an American from steamy Louisiana, one of the most electronically deprived areas of the United States. I've gamed since I was four years old as a result, and plan to do it onto my deathbed. I discovered I could write in June of 2010 when I started a little site called Fans of The Genre with a few friends, and that eventually collapsed three months after due to social lives kicking in. No less than two weeks after that I discovered OXCGN via the community gamer gab competition, and become a staff member shortly after. In February of 2011 I was welcomed to the Editorial staff, then in March of 2012 I was promoted to co-owner... and here I am!
