Stephen Colbert Defends Violent Video Games
Because facts aren’t true enough

Stephen Colbert is what I imagine as the definitive American.
For those who don’t really know who Colbert is, he’s an American political satirist and host of The Colbert Report, Comedy Central’s premiere “fake” (see: satirical) news program.
He invented a word (“truthiness”), has written multiple books, and has his own wax sculpture, among many other things.
In my opinion, he’s the funniest man on television. [Ed.: Nick may or may not have a crush on Stephen.]
Last night, while making fun of NRA (the National Rifle Association) head Wayne LaPierre‘s message before Congress several weeks ago about having armed guards in schools, Stephen spoke his mind on the matter… and it’s perfectly up to his standards.
Because games really cause violence
Stephen’s quote is below. If you’re in America, you can catch the full episode here (his tirade begins at around the 8:00 mark).
“Clearly, the reason we have more gun deaths than anyone else in the industrialized world isn’t the guns… it has to be that America is the only country in the world that has video games!
We’re the only country that has violent movies, and we’re the only country with crazy people!
Well, maybe not the only country, but certainly we’ve got the craziest people. And if you don’t believe me, you don’t have to take my word for it.
I don’t know about you, folks, but I agree with Wayne LaPierre. You, sir, are f***ed in the head.”
America again
Colbert’s message, while humorous, goes to show that finally, only the most ignorant of people are still continuing blame real world violence on video games… which constitutes a large portion of America and the world in general, but hey, it’s a start!
While you’re here, you should totally read Stephen’s new book America Again: Re-becoming the Greatness We Never Weren’t. Available for only $15USD on Amazon, it highlights the satirical glory of America.
