The Wolf Among Us: Episode Two Finally Has A Release Date

Telltale breaks silence to ease rabid fans

by Daniel Geikowski

When Telltale Games revealed their latest episodic game The Wolf Among Us, many fans were eager to dive into it.

After the huge success they had with The Walking Dead: Season One, players knew that this latest adventure would be, in the very least, enjoyable. I can safely say that I was not the only person who pre-purchased the game based solely on Telltale’s reputation alone.

That reputation was bolstered while playing through the first episode of The Wolf Among Us. It had all the hallmarks of a Telltale game; interesting characters, an enjoyable narrative, I was always engaged to see what would happen next on the wild streets of Fabletown. I enjoyed the game so much that I ploughed through the episode in one sitting.

Needless to say, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Episode Two. But alas, I knew I had to wait for some time. As Telltale were also in the midst of releasing The Walking Dead: Season Two (the feels!), I assumed it would be a month’s wait, maybe two tops. Fast forward three months, and there was little word from Telltale on when Episode Two would release. Fans were up in arms at Telltale’s silence, claiming they’d purchased an Early Access version and even going so far as to claim refunds. While this may have been a bit excessive, gamers were entitled to feel a bit jilted.

Never annoy the Big Bad Wolf.
Never annoy the Big Bad Wolf.

The Wolf Rises Again

Thankfully, today the silence has been broken.

Kevin Bruner, President and co-founder of Telltale Games took to their forums to shed some light on when exactly gamers can head back into Fabletown.

Hey everyone!

We were planning the announcement of the ep2 release date just today, and I really wanted to respond to the reddit thread, since the info was imminent anyways. But, we also wanted to make sure that everyone here was the first to know, so here it is!

First week of Feburary!

It’s been a struggle to get this episode out, for a variety of reasons, but it’s finally ready to go, and you heard it here first!

Here’s what I’ll be posting to reddit in a few minutes…

“Hey guys,

Kevin from Telltale here! Funny that this came up today, as we were planning the announcement of Ep 2, but… no time like the present!

Ep 2 should be available the first week of February. We are working hard with all of our partners (Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, Apple) to coordinate everything, but we’re confident enough to announce that here. The episode is looking really good (as is the rest of the season!). We are very concerned about the long delay for this episode, but this is one of those occasions where several things conspired against us (not to mention the additional delays due to the holidays). I won’t dive into the details, but it’s been an unusual and specific set of circumstances and we do not anticipate it happening again as we go forward with the rest of the season.

So there you have it. First week of February!

Straight from the horse’s mouth, The Wolf Among Us: Episode Two should release during the first week of February. While we gamers can be an impatient bunch, we all know the wait will be worth it. If we have to wait another three months for Episode Three though, then I guess that’s something gamers will get angry about. Is this acceptable? Should game developers bow to the expectations of consumers?
