Want free games, trips to expos,
E 3 conventions, free promotional gear, know all the hot gossip and latest news direct from the publishers. Get personally signed gear from creative developers, not to mention lots of money ?
Well . . . so do we, so you’d best start looking somewhere else, as that is not going to happen here . . .
Well, not ALL of that . . . anyway
Yes, we may have mingled with ‘some’ gaming celebs, (yes Cliff Bleszinski is much short in real than he is in real life) plus attended various Australian gaming functions and get to try out the odd ‘free’ game here and there. But that is not what the team is in this for.
What we are here for is to make the Xbox Community, especially here in Australia, a fun and information packed place. Community meaning events that involve the community and information that brings those people together in some way.
Our current writers are keen, diverse and dedicated, but we need a few more like that. NO, we do NOT pay our writers, in fact, the site makes no financial income at all presently, and is run by volunteers . . But then, so was Google and Netscape, Yahoo and many other great businesses around the world – initially.
What we lack in financial return is paid back in coverage. Your articles will be on a site that is growing every week. Ever months since launch back in late July 2007 (8 views) early August 2007 (total of 89 view) to an average of 2,300 unique view per day December 2008. With the highest daily views to date being 23,926 within a 24 hour period, and a highest monthly view rate of 89,590 unique views (June 2008 – E3)
But apart from that spike, we have grown steadily each month since launch and continue to do so. We are second only to the great XboxWorld.com.au which has been in operation for several years now in Australia. They have a global Alexa page ranking of 181,456 and ours, after starting at over 20,500,000 just 18 months ago is now – 227,536 globally.
Which is not too shabby if we do say so ourselves.
To handle the growth, we need good, dedicated and committed writers. Currently are ages run between 15yrs old (tech helper extraordinaire) to myself at 55yrs. Yes, gamers can be that old, as funny as it may seem. Within our midsts are several parents, guys in relationships, not, career guys, students and basically a decent cross section of ‘gamers’
We do NOT want Xbots, fanbois, or Xbox Zealots on the team. If you have a PS3, a Wii, and a gaming PC rig, all the better, but if you think the sun rises and falls with the Xbox 360, stop right now and head to another site. One of the main things OXCGN prides its self on is its unbiased reporting and reviews.
Yes, we even review PS3 and PC titles where appropriate, and the odd Apple game and hardware item here and there. Not because we want to ‘dis’ the competition, but because we love the great games that come out on all platforms. We simply chose to use the Xbox Platform as our mainstay right now, and enjoy the diversity iot affords us. Yet still enjoy the other thrills the PS3 and PC can give us. You will need to have that level of dedication.
What will you need to do to get on board ?
No, we just wont take you on because you had some review published, or you got A’s in English, or know how to play Devil May Cry 4 backwards with one hand while reading LOTRs out loud. You will need to go through a series of small ‘tests’ to ensure you can manage the time, the team and the requirements put upon you as part of the team, just like everyone else has had to do.
The team must help each other out. If you write an article it will be supported by all the team and pushed accordingly. If someone else writes a review/article, you will also be required to do your bit with getting that item ‘out there’, just the same as if it were first piece of work.
Who do we want, and why do we want you ?
We are after a few more competent writers to help carry the load. Ideally that will include a few more female writers, as we have plans for a OXCGN Gals Gamers section. So if you;re a female gamer, and wanting to flex your writing muscles, then send us an email now. Plus a few more writers who like to dig up “good news” as part of the OXCGN News Hounds, and follow up on that news in the proper fashion.
So if you think you’d like to help contribute to this growing site, and have some of the skills needed, then slip us an email and we can start the process for you. And yes, good writing skills are a major boon, but we do have some excellent coaches on the team that do not mind guiding those that require it from time to time.
You must also be prepared to honour ‘your word’. We have NDA’s with many companies, and you WILL be required to sign one when accepted. So if you think you might like to spill the beans on the next Halo title, or the New Gears of War 4 title you heard about through the team, or that Epic Studios have just signed a new deal with MS that no one knows about, then you’ll suffer the wrath of Kain . . . I mean the full extent of what legal remedies are there when someone breaks a legally binding document. Your Word is a reflection of “Who You Are” in life.
Your word is a measure of your personal integrity.
If you believe you can ‘make a difference’ and want to share your skills with others, have your articles, reviews and views shared with 2.3 k ppl a day, then by all means do send us an email explaining why you’d like to join us . . . . but please, no Forum Junkies or blow-hards . . . you wont last long, and there’s no one to flame in here . . .
So let’s get going shall we! Just send use some samples of your work, a brief summation of why you’d like to contribute to OXCGN and how you’ll be able to make a difference. Not to forget what wonderful worldly skills you may have hidden under that dark, brooding exterior.
We will send you back an application form, which will begin the process, and we do look forward to hearing from those who honestly do wish to make a difference.
Cheers . . . Grant (aka XboxOZ360)
