What we have here is a collection of all our pre and post E3 2010 news, articles, announcements and material that is related to the event.
Simply pick one of the items that interest you, click any of the links at the end of the section, and you’ll be taken straight to that piece.
Remembering, OXCGN’s views are just that, our personal opinions based not on other peoples thoughts or ideas, but based solely on our own ‘personal’ experiences at E3, and how we thought the event unfolded.
Many other media outlets have condemned certain aspects of the event, especially the Kinect show, which is what it was, and never aimed at being a game demonstration evening, and have come out strongly against Microsoft and its approach.
We have different views, and not because we’re a Xbox-centric site. But because we are mature gamers who can see past fanboyism that seems to plague the internet these days, even in major game media outlets.
So do read on, there’s bound to be something of interest, and if there isn’t, then let us know and we can find something for you, or it could inspire us into finding an article for you. You never know, you could spark a major article . . who knows.
The main aim here is though, to provide you with information, news and above all, fun from a great event – E3 2010. Enjoy.

Kane And Lynch Players Get Real Nasty
116,000 players were killed in the act of pulling-off a heist

One game we spotted at E3 was IO Interactive’s Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days, and the line up for those wanting to get some hands on with this was an interesting sight.
The following PR item from Bandai Partners who are publishing the game certainly spells out the huge multiplayer aspects of this game.
If specs are anything to go by with regards to the numbers who played a recent limited play-off online, then this game could well supply a decent challenge for the top multiplayer title on the Xbox 360 when it is release.
Our guy on the floor at E3, Alex Baldwin, who luckily got his hands on the game very near the end of E3 certainly was impressed, especially with the neat way the game plays out with regards a new and ingenious way of being “Undercover”.

The Gamer Dis-Kinect with Microsoft
Or how I learned to stop worrying and Kinect
with the casual audience.
• Full article follows here…..

Having endured the Cirque du Soleil spectacle to launch Microsoft’s Kinect it was hard to imagine anybody coming close to the bravado and hyperbole of Microsoft saving human kind on the back of an elaborately dressed elephant.
And yet within hours the rapid fire panning by several predominant games media outlets had not only matched but, since then, now seems intent on reaching the stage of outdoing the best of the games PR world, in the same method that the accusers rally so hard against on a regular basis… with hype, hyperbole and, complete and utter bullshit!
Look I know wearing a white poncho isn’t too flattering on the gut you’ve been accumulating over your hard earned years as a serious video game journalist. It certainly doesn’t compliment the moon tan.

OXCGN’s Indie Game Site’s Guide to E3 in LA
Indie Game Site’s Guide to E3
Where we choose to STAY

©2010 Grant Smythe:
After having attended the last two E3s in Los Angeles, California, we here at OXCGN would like to combine our thoughts and knowledge to help other similar small indie style game sites like ours in not only attending, but getting around and ultimately enjoying this vast, wonderful and often overwhelming city called L.A., the city of Angels.
For someone new on the scene, it can be extremely daunting to say the least, and making your way around LA for the Expo can not only be difficult, but expensive, especially if you do not know your way around, or are unfamiliar with the layout and modes of transport as well as decent, affordable accommodation.

Star Wars Kinect – Is It A Nerds Dream?
“I have a bad feeling about this…”
• Full article follows here …….
by Betheo
© 2010 Beth Sasagi
I am a nerd first and foremost.
I admit this openly and freely, ignoring the funny looks I get for my ‘How to Kill a Zombie’ shirt and laughter from my ‘cooler’ friends as I regale them with tales of my exploits on Omega and the Citadel.
But there is one thing that I hold closest to my nerdy heart, and that thing is Star Wars, whether it be the classic fantastic three or the newer…not so fantastic three (don’t get me wrong, I am a Liam Neeson fan, but I really didn’t need to know where the force came from).
I love it all, from force powers to Death Stars to the droideka.
So when I was directed to a little video recently from one of the E3 presentation by one of my fellow OXCGNites, I couldn’t help but think my prayers had been answered: Star Wars for the Kinect?

The Battle Royal Of Motion Control
Technology Comparison of Sony’s Move and Microsoft’s Kinect – E3 2010

Printed in-full with Authors permission:

E3 is back in a big way, and this year was the battle of the motion controllers and 3D tech. While Nintendo® was the first to prove that motion technology was viable to gaming with the release of the Wii™, Microsoft® and Sony® are attempting to raise the bar with their own versions of motion control…but have they succeeded?
The answer is yes and no. We’ll break down both technologies and point out advantages and disadvantages versus the Wiimote™.

OXCGN’s Take on E3 2010 Part #1
• Full article follows here…..
©2010 Grant Smythe
While E3 has finally come, and gone, OXCGN has taken some vids during the days as we headed both to and from the event where we discuss the various aspects of our own daily impressions of the event as it unfolded for us personally.
While those of you that were not here will have different views of how E3 went, for those of us on the show floor or in actual developers booths where the public and even exhibitors were not permitted, we got a much different view and perspective of what was taking place with the different items up for offer at E3.

E3 2010 Publisher Recap #2: Activision
• Full article follows here…..
©2010 Alex Baldwin:
Onto #2 of our publisher recaps, having a look at each of the games Activision was showing.
This is a discussion of our impressions and thoughts on the games instead of specs or features lists, as we know how difficult it can be to gauge exactly how good or shaky a game is looking at E3 amongst the marketing talk.
This only discusses the games we either played, or went behind closed doors for a media session. Luckily this covers almost all significant Xbox 360 games.
Once again, the game we felt most positive about from each publisher receives the OXCGN Green Light award.

E3 2010 Publisher Recap #1: EA
• Full article follows here…..
©2010 Alex Baldwin:
Another E3 has come and gone, bringing with it one the best selections of gaming gold we’ve ever been witness to. The downside of this is the three of us on the floor were quite frankly exhausted running from one publisher appointment to the next with almost zero downtime.
Now that we’ve got some breathing space before heading back to Australia, it’s about time to lay out our honest thoughts on each of the games we saw from each publisher. This isn’t a stats or features list – you can find that elsewhere. These are our impressions and feelings from each game, something difficult to formulate without being at E3.

OXCGN’s E3 2010 Show Awards
The Awards no one else gives out.

One thing we noticed as we wandered around the main halls in E3 was the large number of stickers, plaques and awards attached to the signs for many games, proclaiming them as being ‘IGN Best Action Game Nominee’ or ‘Kotaku Best of E3′. Predictably these were fixed on the biggest sequels or most elaborate setups.
It got us thinking however: why do we have to stick to the traditional Academy Award-esque categories? Why not honour the less obvious achievements overlooked in the chaos of the show floor?
And so we present to you,
OXCGN’s First Annual E3 Awards!

Sony and Nintendo Keynote Reviews:
More ‘Buck for your Bang’? Did Nintendo & Sony deliver?

Without further ado I declare Microsoft did not deliver a keynote anywhere near last year’s E3 Keynote (see my review of Microsoft’s 2010 presentation here
Without further ado I declare Microsoft did not deliver a keynote anywhere near last year’s E3 Keynote but Nintendo and Sony did deliver by addressing all their fan’s interests, from the hardcore gamers to the casual gamers, from the handheld gamers to new gamers.
Both keynotes offered a great deal more ‘buck-for-your-bang’ (if you pardon the reversal of the saying) than what Microsoft had to offer and show with their elaborate blockbuster ‘big bang- but little substance’ presentation.

Microsoft tries to Kinect...
While XboxOz360, TWODOGSz, & Axis of Reality are walking the E3 floor, interviewing various developers, getting hands-off/hands-on on plenty of 360 titles, Sony titles and Nintendo titles, the rest of OXCGN are back home taking in all the information we can.
Like me. I’m here after having watched all 3 major Media Briefings to report exactly who did what to steal the show, and no I’m not going to bring a heavy 360 bias because this is a 360-focused site.
I’ll say more about Sony and Nintendo later, but to sum it up Sony performed in addressing ALL their fans, Nintendo brought the big franchises back to life and Microsoft produced a ‘Big Bang’ with its Kinect Cirque de Soleil show and keynote, but not much new and evolutionary emerged from their presentation.
First up, seeing as Microsoft had its media briefing on the Monday, I feel I’ve digested the information enough to look at the positive and negatives of their keynote.

So we’ve been dazzled by the Cirque Du Soleil performance, seen some of the early Kinect launch titles, watched Microsoft’s keynote and about to set onto the show floor of E3 2010.
Already, before anyone has even been given the chance to play the Kinect game, opinions are flowing thick and fast through the internet’s veins.

New Xbox 360 Design Hits Australia July 1 This Year
• Full article follows here ……..

Well the 360 ‘Slim’ rumours were true: there’s a newly designed Xbox 360 on its way and will be released to Aussies on July 1st, while

Shiny New 360
the US will see it out this coming week.
According to our people at E3 ground zero the new sleek and shiny black Wi-Fi enabled 250 gig Kinect-ready SKU will be here by next month for purchase.
Don’t go dreaming of trading in your old systems to EB Games for the new unit though: they currently offer only AU$59 for your old Xbox 360 system and $9 for the 20gig HDD and $19 for the 60 gig HDD (yes, I checked). If you have a 2006 model don’t even bother coming in- they won’t take it (so my son is out of luck…).

Now that the three of us from OXCGN (Editor in Chief Grant, News Editor Aaron and myself Alex, Features Editor) have all arrived here in Los Angeles for the gaming event of the year, we decided to rock up to the convention centre for an early peek, and registration with Microsoft for their various events.
And it’s a good thing we did too. With numerous posters, banners and booths in the process of being precariously strung across every available surface, a few little secrets and slip through the nets for inquisitive journalists such as ourselves to snatch up. Here’s a few of the rather interesting tidbits we observed:

OXCGN’s Top 10 Exclusive To Steal @ E3 2010
• Full article follows here…..
by TwoDogsZ
©2010 Aaron Bertinetti
If there’s one overwhelmingly certifiable fact about E3 2010, it’s that this year will have so many quality exclusives across all platforms that every gamer will have something to envy on another platform. Most of us (80%) here at OXCGN are lucky enough to have both an Xbox 360 & PS3, along with the occasional Wii and the standard PC.
However, for many of our readers who only have the one console, namely the Xbox 360, we feel it’s our duty in the name of wishful thinking to rub our virtual lamp and see what wishes the OXCGN genie grants us. However, be warned, because we do have a track record. In 2008 we picked Final Fantasy XIII. In 2009 we picked Metal Gear Solid: Rising… and in 2010 we’re pretty confident at least one of the following will do the same this year.
Which one do you want to steal for the Xbox 360? Let us know in the Poll at the bottom.

2010: It It Bigger, Better and More Overhyped?
• Full article follows here…..
© 2010 Arthur Kotsopoulos
I’m a full-on gamer so when it comes to sequels and gaming events I usually get worried that I’m easily sucked into the hype bandwagon that ultimately ruins any hope I have for enjoying a title. It happened with GTAIV, it happened with Gears of War 2, Fable II and I feel it will surely happen with E3 2010.
E3 2009 returned to form with booth babes, all out advertising and no holds barred gaming mascots walking the floor, but still I feel that E3 2010 will follow the same trend as EPIC’s Gears of War 2. It will be bigger and better than its predecessor but will ultimately fail to live up to its own hype.

10 Games That MUST Be Announced @ E3 2010
Or gamers might start World War 3…
• Full article follows here…..
©2010 Ben Cadwallader:
It’s time to be hyped up, stay up all night (for us Aussies) and watch all the great announcements unfold before our eyes! It’s E3 time again!
There are always a few desired titles that were rumored to be announced, or simply just anticipated by the fans but sadly not announced. One (or more) years later we are brought to that same moment of suspense, with an increased desire that our dream game will be announced finally!
This is a list of 10 of those games (and I know there are MANY more) that NEED to be announced at E3 this year or gamers might simply explode into a chaotic riot group and lay waste to the E3 Expo! Well okay- at least their bedrooms in a petulant tanty?

Why is there no such thing as a game celebrity?
• Full article follows here…..
©2010 Alex Baldwin
We all know game development is one of the most overlooked creative industries. While you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who didn’t know the names James Cameron or Beyonce Knowles, mention Peter Molyneux or Shigeru Miyamoto to any non-gamer and you’ll be met with blank stares.
E3 is just around the corner, and the halls in LA’s Exhibition Centre will be filled with many of gamings best. But why do they not attain the level of success other mediums do, especially considering that their games can bring in twice as much revenue than some block-buster movies?
Try taking the gaming celebrity quiz at the end of this article, and see how well you know your favourite hobby.
But why is this so?
We all know the games industry is one of the most widely spread forms of media in the world, with Mario, Sonic, Halo and God of War recognisable to even the most technologically illiterate. This is much like films, but with the difference being most people can name Peter Jackson alongside Lord of the Rings or Keanu Reeves with The Matrix.

E3 2010: Top 10 “Show Me The Gameplay” Games
Where’s the gameplay now – ?
• Full article follows here …….
© 2010 David Hilton
With E3 2010 almost here gamers everywhere will be hoping to hear new titles announced, along with new details on already announced upcoming games.
But what of those games previously announced where we have seen very little, if any, real gameplay footage, have few details on final retail release dates, or even know if they are really still coming? E3 sees studios and publishers (sometimes even those not at E3) provide new details of their upcoming games.
Here is my Top 10 list of games for E3 ’10 which I hope to see concrete in-game footage of to either prove they are still coming or to excite me for their future release. Some of these games are way overdue or just confirmed, while some are slotted in for the vague early 2011 release period.
What games do you need to see real in-game footage of at this E3 to get excited?

Top 10 E3 2010 Announcements We Do NOT Want

E3 is always one of the highlights of the gaming calendar. We get to find out what will be parting us from our hard-earned cash for the next year, what the next iterations of our favourite franchises will be and of course, some exciting new IPs.
Every few years or so we’re even witness to the unveiling of a new console generation, or in this year’s case, a new way to interact with our consoles (Natal and Move).
However, we’re also just as likely to see misguided game remakes, unneccessary accessories and our favourite characters from days gone by forced to once again slog through endless soul-sucking sequels all hoping to bring the series back to its glory days (hello, Sonic…).
