Xbox 360 Darwin Motion Controller Video Page
Shown in use with 3 games
Lego Star Wars – Tiger Woods ’08 – Harry Potter.
Here on our Gamer Video Page we would like you to check out 3 games that are using the Darwin 360 Motion Controller ? – Tiger Woods 2008, Lego Star Wars & Harry Potter. Earlier on we posted an article on the Newton Motion Controller by Motus Games which also ran by the code name Darwin, this follows on from that story and gives more facts about the Darwin Project.
Is this the Newton/Darwin Xbox360 Project Motion Controller being announced at this weeks E3-’08 – it certainly seems like it could well be. So for those naysayers out there. So it pays to look first before making rash statements. Personally it’s NOT something I would get, nor would it be of use for any serious games other than the likes of ’some’ sports games as shown in the video with Tiger Woods ‘08. I think it would stink on the Lego’s game as well as other similar game, but hey, that’s just my personal thoughts on the matter.
I don’t believe it’s a bad idea to have the function and the device to appeal to a much broader and varied audience, which MS Xbox-Div definitely are targeting now, but it’s not something many hardcore gamers would be serious about getting. But you be the judge and check the YouTube videos out yourself.
Let us know your thoughts and I think the Star Wars one if just Naff personally . .and the only one worth anything is the Tiger Woods ’08, as I’ve found the previous games lacking when it comes to proper control over the ball and the club. Hopefully this will solve that problem. ?!

Wow…it’s been forever since it was originally supposed to be released…wasn’t it supposed to be released two years ago? I’ve been wanting to get my hands on one for two years!
@ Bobby,
Some valid points there, and some not so.
One major thing is, that Bill Gates has had very little to do with Xbox per-se’ and now has even less, seeing that he has retired to take up his philantropy works helping those in need around the world.
MS is slowly moving towards getting the ‘casual’ gamer onside. Their plan is obvious, and needed. If they went straight inn and did a full-on casual marketing approach, their ‘core demographic’ would be lost, and would migrate to other systems, namely the PS3 for shooters and the like.
Which by the way, have the highest use per head on the net bar none. So it’s prudent that they keep that demographic. It would be insaine for them not to keep it, or alienate it.
MS and even Sony had a motion based controller and periperals before the Wii did, an dit’s not about who had it first, or who is copying who, I’m simply pointing it oiut. Because – at the time, they simply did not sell and the gamers of thetime did not take to it as they thought. Which is understandable at that time, as the games really did not warrant them.
If you look at MS’s approach to casual gaming andthe family games and the NXE, it is all aimed squarly at families, casual gaming and the like. This hasn’t “just been hatched up on the spure of the moment”. These ideas were in such white papers back as early as 2002/3, etching out a plan to get int the ‘family’ lounge room and towards casual gamers.
Nintendo could go straight at that market, because it already had it. It was well known for its casual game approach, it’s ability to make simple ides work, but even at thetime, those ideas were not showing much profit or headway. You only need to look at their market share at the time.
The gamers then were not ready for it either. But now, with the advent of huge online gaming, and the push for family involvement, you can see how the 3 majors are moving towards involvong that. MS will bring in such a device in due course, it makes perfect sense to do so. But again, they can’t do so until they have a demographic to sell it to, an dthe games to back it up.
You’re right with regards to the games being a huge let down with Nindy, and that MS then Sony having the games sewn up with their “core audience” . . so that is one of the main reasons they have not really pushed the whole wii-mote style at the moment, it simply wouldn’t fly with those gamers – right now. And it still wont later on.
It will though with the new generation of younger gamers coming online, as well as many other gamers who have the console but want ti=o include the family, rather that have it as a lone experience for one or two members of the family.
And yes, who could possibly play Forza 3 (yes, it WILL be out in 09, see our latest update in the Forza 3 coming in 2009 article) or GRiD, Gears Of War, Resistance etc with a wii-mote style controller. Seeing that games such as Gears sell in the numbers they do, could you imagine what would happen if MS or Sony tried to wii-mote those core games . . down right dismay comes to mind.
So in due course, and with prudent introduction, things like this controller will come about, but not until they have a market for it. MS learnt that lesson with Zune. They pushed for it to be released well before it was really needed or could fit in with the whole platform as such. Give it about another 6 – 12 months, and it could well do that, but not to the level MS might have thought it would.
Oh, btw, I took the liberty of breaking up your post so others could read it better. It’s best to only have several lines of text in one lump, rather than a whole block of it, as it makes viewers want to read it.
xbox 360 heavly relies on quite a big of 3rd person/fps shooters. Gamers have been crying out for a accurate control system for these types of games. I cannot see any other way to take these type of games to the next level on the console format.
I believe it would be a very smart move to release a peripheral along side the current controller that acts pretty much like the Wiimote and Nunchuck. Before you shoot me down, try your hand at Resident Evil 4 on the Wii, then make your comments.
Until you have tried this game out with that setup then your comments will just no cut it. Bill Gates and Sony need to put their egos aside and admit that Nintendo have created something that has been needed in the video gaming market for years.
The upshot for both Microsoft and Sony is that Nintendo did it well, but there is MASSIVE scope for improvement. Both Sony and MS have the games down to a tee as Nintendo game are piss poor just. Any one of those two creating a better motion set up coupled with outstanding games will take the market from Nintendo easy as they just don’t have the power in that tiny white box!
By the way, i have a wii (i dig it) and the only games i buy are games that benefit from the control system, all other good titles are bought on the 360. I can’t imagine playing Forza 2 or GTA4 on the Wii, go or even Guitar Hero with the awful guitar set up!!
actually it is nintendo copying the darwin…
the darwin is more precise than the wiimote and it have been a work in progress by motus ceo company for about 8 years…
it will soon become available for pc, ps3 and xbox 360…
yea i agree with shaitan3000 the response does seem really bad (if they are really using the Motion Controller and dont just have someone off screen using a real controller). it seemed to have a 1-2 sec delay most the time
LOL the response is so bad…MS is failing copying Nintendo !
