OXCGN’s EA Showcase Snapshot: Crysis 3, SimCity, and The Devil’s Cartel

A showcase of EA’s Q1 2013 lineup

ea logo oxcgnIt’s astounding to think that all the games at EA Australia’s Showcase will be released in Q1 of 2013. These range from the beautiful title Crysis 3, to Insomniac‘s first multiplatform title and new IP known as FUSE.

The line up is disappointingly filled with shooters, which I have to admit is starting to make this last stretch of current generation consoles over-crowded. With that being said though, EA do have Maxis‘s SimCity, my highlight of the showcase.

With FUSE and Dead Space 3 being the bigger titles of the line up, we’ve decided to bring back the snapshot format OXCGN utilized during previous events of this year.

This way, you’re able to digest more important information that we feel would interest you.

Breaking new ground?

black_ops2_oxcgn headerOnline gaming would be a whole lot different today if it wasn’t for games like Call of Duty.

They made it easy to get involved, and it’s more addictive than ever – it’s not uncommon to see people with over twenty days of online play under their belt.

In order to keep up with the ever-changing landscape of online gaming, however, franchises like COD now have a yearly release.

Some people like myself love this, while others hate it. Either way, it’s probably going to be a few years before this cycle stops, so you better get used to it.

This year’s installment in the franchise, Black Ops 2, is a follow up to 2010’s Black Ops by Treyarch.

I have already reviewed the single player component of the game in a separate article – this review is strictly related to the multiplayer.

It’s no secret that I preferred Blacks Ops’ multiplayer compared to Modern Warfare 3, but when it came it single player, Black Ops did not even come close – let’s see how this year’s multiplayer iteration holds up.

2011 was the last big shebang of this generation, but that doesn’t mean that 2012 is a dying breath.

Across all franchises, platforms and genres, 2012 is a big year filled to the brim with quality titles.

In no particular order, here are ten upcoming games that you really should get this year.

Is 2012 a year of gaming for you?

Games!

Games are ultimately what draws the press from around the world to Los Angeles for E3.  The chance to see, play, and preview the newest announced or displayed games from around the globe.

But that’s just for the press.

We don’t want you to completely miss out though, or wait for long detailed descriptions on the games you want to know about now.

So we are running around like chickens with our heads chomped off (by ZombiU zombies?) to give you mini-previews of as many games as possible.

Each day we’re going to list a short snippet regarding each game, listing what we “got” – whether that is hands-on time, a trailer, et cetera – our impressions based upon that, and then our thoughts.

Impressions are judged with a badge based upon the impression itself.

Green: game looks fantastic, polished and basically a guaranteed winner

Yellow: game looks great, but there’s a bit of uncertainty or something that didn’t quite work right

Orange: game is shaping up, but needs some work.

And now, let’s get down to business!   Day 3!
