bioshock infinite cover2012 was an above average year for gaming.

We got tons of major franchise iterations like Far Cry 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Borderlands 2, and Assassin’s Creed III.

In addition to these solid titles, we also received a plethora of new IP and imaginative adventures: Dishonored, Journey, and Spec Ops: The Line, to name a few.

While these were excellent games, it feels as if not that many were actually released in 2012.

Having been in development for roughly 2 years up at Ubisoft Montreal with a team consisting of veterans from franchises such as Assassins Creed, Far Cry and Rainbow Six, Watch Dogs is a brand new IP that’s making headlines.

Amongst all the sequels, rehashes and reboots, Watch Dogs is simply flawless, from the beginning of its 9 minute gameplay demo. When you’ve got Hideo Kojima, Tim Schafer and Whil Weaton all taking time out of their day to pop over to Ubisoft to see the game in person you know you have something amazing.

From fluid animations in character movements and burning fire, real time graphics that blend seamlessly from cutscene to gameplay and Person Of Interest-esque gameplay, Watch Dogs ticks all of gaming’s boxes.

Ubisoft have had one hell of an E3 showing, most notably with their announcements of Watch Dogs and Splinter Cell: Blacklist.

As you may have previously read here, I wasn’t too happy with the axing of Sam Fisher‘s charismatic voice actor Michael Ironside.

Being a massive fan of the franchise since day 1 of the first title, I anxiously (but professionally) grilled our presenter of the game after our behind-closed-doors presentation at E3 2012.

The answer is reasonable, but fans still may not be happy.

Why was Ironside dropped? Find out here
