The Crazy Scenes of E3 Immortalised

E3 2012 is over for another year, and while we compile our information into some sort of narrative sense, we think of the things that have remained in our minds bringing either a smile or grimace to our faces.

For myself and one of OXCGN’s other two attending members, it was our first rodeo.

The lights, noise, spectacles, giant booths, booth babes, frantic PR representatives and overload of games can be enough to cause an anxiety attack.

Amidst a psychological breakdown and the rage of an Editor in Chief that demanded more content, I noticed many offbeat things at E3 2012 that deserved their own special awards.

From media/VIP lounges to the unknowing filming of booth babes’ behinds, here are the E3 2012 “best” awards you’ll not see anywhere else, probably for good reason.

E3 ’09:- ESA mutterings on E3 ’09 to be an Open affair ?!

E3 2009 to be expanded to include more.

Open to public, media and retailers – again !

It finally had to happen. If they want to keep E3 alive, then they have to open it up to more than a select few. It was capped this year at a few thousand attendees which really didn’t do that much for the whole gaming scene globally. Plus there were no Booth-Babes – bugger!

E3 is an important event. We can’t get away from that. If the ESA want to make sure the lions share of exhibits and announcements come from the E3 floor each year, rather than the TGS or Leipzig, then they must open up the show for a broader and bigger audience.

It seems from some very recent reports that they (ESA) may well be allowing Bloggers “Official Access” which is great. As now, many major sites are in fact Blogging sites. Many representing huge reader followings across the globe. Plus there’s talk of allowing retailers, media and the public back in much like the E3′s of the past. There will be an “Official Announcement on Tuesday Morning in the US which should shed more light on the subject.

Could be the return of the Booth-Babe Yeah!

Could be the return of the Booth-Babe Yeah!

If it is true, then we will be doing what we can to ensure we have at least one representative there next year, come hell – or high water – as they say.

Here’s today’s news from GameSutra with links to suitable news sources confirming the state of affairs at this time. Once we get clarification on it officially, we will most certainly drop it in here. But currently, it is penciled in for June 2nd to June 4th 2009, but some say it could be 3 days, much like E3 of Old. I certainly hope so.

The announcement may help the ESA slow the rate of publishers and companies jumping ship on E3, as many of the majors were noticeably absent at this years event. Hopefully wiser heads have come up with something that can revive the slowly sinking ship that was E3.

From GameSutra: “[UPDATE: The ESA is currently offering a 'no comment' to any media outlets approaching it, indicating that it will announce the specifics on the revamped show when it is ready.]“
