If you’re a gamer of substantial experience, the past few years may make you believe in miracles.

Duke Nukem Forever finally saw the light of day, essentially making sales on the premise that the game had actually come out.

Now, another miraculous instance has occurred: the long-awaited Half-Life remake modification for Half-Life 2, Black Mesa Source, has been released.

Take a gander at the tremendous difference in fourteen years of graphical fidelity below.

All roads lead to E3

E3.

The one thing that makes gamers around the world go absolute batshit crazy.

Some in a good way, where announcements make gamers jump into loving bro-hugging (or the female gamer equivalent….sis-hugging….”shugging” we’ll go with) embraces, others which draw the ire of gamers everywhere.

Over the last few years, we have come to expect a few things are a given at E3; the latest Call of Duty will feature, Microsoft will draw the gaze of gamers everywhere simply by saying “Halo”, some weird and awkward guy on stage will make an ass of himself using the Kinect, and people everywhere detest Valve for announcing/demoing/talking about a game that isn’t Half Life with the number 3 attached.

However, it’s usually the announcement of the unexpected that gets gamers up and about.

It’s E3 Sequel time here

When this time of year comes around, our thoughts begin to condense and our vision begins to narrow: E3 is right around the corner.

If we choose to come out of this daze, we may not enjoy the circumstances in which we may find ourselves, such as an annoyed OXCGN Editor in Chief demanding that I produce an article that isn’t a review.

My thoughts immediately read, “I feel as if I’m trapped inside a journalistic prison.” And then it hit me!

Here are, in no particular order, some of gaming’s best prison levels (also known as “Places I Hope To Never Visit”).

Ah, E3. The Electronic Entertainment Expo, gaming’s biggest event and easily the largest concentration of information throughout the year.

It’s in the air. Can you smell it? Feel it? Sense it? It’s right around the corner – in fact, from the time of this post, only thirty-seven days away – and this is when anticipation truly sets in and begins to build.

  • Will that hinted-at project be unveiled?
  • Will that sequel get announced?
  • Will that exclusive title go multiplatform?
  • Will Valve finally speak of Half-Life 2: Episode Three/Half-Life 3?
  • Will Star Wars: Battlefront III see the light of day?
  • Will Peter Molyneux claim his next title will cure cancer?
  • Will the new consoles be unveiled?
  • Will I have to sell my firstborn child to purchase said consoles?

It’s quite simply the most wonderful time of the year in the gaming scene, and everyone is ecstatic. But with every E3, there always comes the great anticipations, excitements and – of course – the disappointments and let downs. It’s a given with any E3.

OXCGN is proudly returning to the show floor to provide coverage like none other.

Until then, here are the top announcements we do and don’t want at E3 2012, in no particular order.

Is this the year that all our dreams come true? Read on to see!
