The Essence of Perfection

In most cases, the end of a revered trilogy is a most sad occasion.

Tears are shed, fun is remembered, sentimental words are exchanged, and an entrancing story is put to rest.

Gears of War 3 does all of the aforementioned, but in one of the most polished, visceral, enveloping ways possible.

It’s a title everyone with an Xbox 360 should own, regardless if they are a fan or not of the prior iterations.

Is this ‘really’ perfection . . . ?

The Gears of War series has become synonymous with the current generation of consoles.

Let’s face it: much or at least part of the reason we noticed Gears in the first place was the fact that it looked so darn beautiful when the first iteration started making news.

Never before had an entry in the interactive medium reached such a high level of graphical fidelity!

Here we are nearly half a decade later (can you really believe it’s been that long?), and Epic‘s space marine chainsawfest has reached its third and final entry [in the main series].

For the first time in the history of the company, Epic has decided to throw out a beta, undoubtedly a product of the delayed title. But how exactly does the end of the trilogy fare so far? Come see if it’s a good third iteration…

Gears of War 3 is one of this Fall’s most anticipated titles, arriving at just the right time (September 20) in order to help [western hemisphere] students fail school at the beginning of the first semester, versus the typical holiday time frame.

Relayed from CVG, Epic executive producer Rod Fergusson said that Gears 3 is going to “answer all of the questions, bring the story to a closure and go out with a huge bang.”

Before you mourn the end of a great series, hold your horses, as Rod wasn’t done talking. (more…)

bulletstorm box arttMainstream multiplayer gaming, particularly within the ranks of Call of Duty (and similar titles), has led to what we call the “dudebro” generation.

A “dudebro” is your generic fratboy gamer, particularly those who play nothing but Call of Duty, Halo and Gears of War.

Typically, they know diddly-squat about culture, and the books they have read basically consist of such enlightening titles as Green Eggs and Ham and about the first ten pages of the first Halo novel.

They usually begin or end each of their sentences with “dude” or “bro” and filled with such wonderious filler words such as “like” – “you know – like”.

Bulletstorm is a game made by dudebros and for dudebros.

Does Bulletstorm measure up to the hype . . . ?
