It’s no surprise to anyone that the Action/Adventure RPG genre is a popular choice for gamers. We have been spoiled for choice over the years with some high quality titles, which has allowed gamers to waste away their time holed up in front of a screen instead of experiencing that overrated thing called “outside”.

The Action/Adventure RPG allows gamers to experience various game worlds, richly detailed, full of life and character. They cater to the players’ game styles, allowing them to create a unique character or choose specific abilities with which to play through the game. The Action/Adventure RPG grants the player a sense of representation in the unique game world.

The following are 5 essentials that I believe the Ultimate Action/Adventure RPG must have, along with an example of a game that goes about it the right way.

The big release season is in full swing, and those of you with deep wallets are busy playing the huge number of quality games on offer.

But what about those who can only afford maybe one or two new releases, or maybe none at all yet?  There’s a global economic slowdown on after all.

Well at OXCGN we’ve decided to put ourselves a second time in the game Animus and go back in time to discover what titles we enjoyed this gen that you should be able to get for cheap (and still play the multiplayer without a code!).

In no particular order, here is PART 2 of OXCGN’s Best Overlooked Games This Gen.  What are yours?  Comment below and help the poor (gamer).

Gaming’s Most Original Soundtracks Of The Decade

by Axis Of Reality

© 2010 Alex Baldwin – Features Editor

We’re only a few days into the second decade of the new millenium. To celebrate what has arguably seen gaming take over as the dominant entertainment medium, I thought it appropriate to honour one of the most overlooked elements of games that has seen tremendous growth in recent year: its soundtrack.

Specifically, games with original soundtracks (that is, not licensed music) composed around the gameplay and events. These are often later released as full albums.

While there have been many amazing soundscapes created for games both big and small, I’ll be covering some of the most noteworthy in various game genres including what is my pick of the best this decade has produced.

Tales of vesperia oxcgn #54Better late – than never

Tales of Vesperia was released back in the middle of 2008 for all regions apart from Australia and Europe. Yet after constant delays, it has finally made it to our shores to a quiet reception.

So it’s with great relief to say that Tales of Vesperia (the tenth title in the series and first to appear on the Xbox 360 console) is an impressive game and a long time coming for JRPG fans around Australia.
