OXCGN’s Brink Review: A Misunderstood Bundle of Fun

OXCGN’s Brink PC Review

A Misunderstood Bundle of Fun

Modern society thrives around technology. The simple fact that so much entertainment and technology is released on a consistent basis justifies the presence of reviews and their direct effect on consumer purchases … and in the games industry, a direct effect on the people from which they come.

Every so often, a radical new idea comes out that people don’t truly grasp or understand. It becomes a topic of popular interest, and in some cases, hype forms around this breath of fresh air.

But when this idea gets in the trenches with the general public, the simple fact that it dared to be different offsets many purchases and warrants much hate.

Brink, developed by Splash Damage and published by Bethesda Softworks, is a misunderstood bundle of fun that is not getting the acclaim it truly deserves due to ignorant reviewers and misconstrued interpretations.

Does Brink bring you to the edge of your seat…

A new level in ‘realism’ – DICE Lifts the graphics bar

Battlefield 3 will be the most realistic-looking shooter yet.

Well that certainly is a bold statement to make, and one I personally feel is accurate, especially when we look at several games hitting the shelves this year in the First Person Shooter genre.

There are several games about to hit the market that could well set benchmarks higher than ever before, giving rise to greater gameplay, and ideally pushing other game developers to ‘step up’ to the mark with regards to their middleware engines that drive their games.

A game is only as good as the engine that powers it, both graphically, as well as in animation, gameplay mechanics and interactivity, especially when combined with a great storyline of course.

Fault Lines: Episodes I – II & III. A whole 12 mins of video wonder

battlefield 3 art oxcgn #1The series has been with gamers for many years, undergone various iteration changes, but it has always been one of the forerunners in First Person Shooters (FPS) on the gaming planet.

Anyone that calls themselves a ‘real gamer’ and that has even wanted to sample a decent FPS would have had to try their hands at at least one of the following titles.

  1. Battlefield Heroes
  2. Battlefield 2142
  3. Battlefield 1942 (and 43)
  4. Battlefield: Bad Company
  5. Battlefield: Bad Company 2
  6. Battlefield: Bad Company 2: Vietnam (PC)
  7. Battlefield 2

And now, the game that will set all the others apart, and ideally set the bar even higher for other FPSs out there:- Battlefield 3

PC To Be Primary Platform for Battlefield 3

PC To Be Primary Platform

Console version? HA! Good one!

From the get-go, fans have been extremely worried that the PC version (aka the real version) of Battlefield 3 would be nothing more than a crappy console port, like what happened with Bad Company 2.

DICE was aware of these allegations and made sure to clear up the issue, and their answers may get console players in a bit of a tiffy.

As the first details surfaced about Battlefield 3, it was clear from what they detailed that the console versions will clearly be inferior, simply for the fact that the PC version will contain 64-player versus compared to the console versions which will only contain 24-player sessions (although the console versions will be matches as closely as possible in terms of specs to the PC version).

Try having jets with 24 people! That’s a funny thought, and I laugh as my glorious PC copy has already been preordered. PC will be the best platform for BF3, come and see…

Update #1:

It’s been noted, that if you watch the video carefully, you’ll notice the attack aircraft could in fact be a soviet built SU-34 IB which indicates that it’s highly likely to be included in the game.

It has the spear shaped nose of the SU-34IB, as well as the twin directional turbines used on the SU-34 IB. A good indication of its probability.

I do so rejoice. This was/is one of the best planes in Ace Combat: Fires Of Liberation, a game I’ve played through on Ace 5 times thus-far.

Sea Vessels!

The mention of sea assault vessels in the Limited Edition blurb from EA sparks a great deal of interest as well – What could or would be the ideal vessels to include – any ideas? See Limited Edition blurb below:-

Fans of the FPS genre (and good multiplayer in general) rejoiced today when DICE officially released the teaser trailer for the long-awaited Battlefield 3.

I don’t know about you, but quite frankly, all this scattered information is kind of overwhelming.

As a result, in this piece I’ll be detailing every single thing we know so far about Battlefield 3 and what DICE is up to.

First, we’ll start with the trailer.

Come check out the FPS of the century!
