This has easily been one of gaming’s most monumental and interesting generations, showcasing a skyrocket in gaming prosperity and attention.

From the United States Supreme Court‘s decision to protect video games under the First Amendment to the disbarment of Jack Thompson, we’ve seen many ups over the past seven-odd years.

Unfortunately, we’ve seen just as many downs.

I now present to you the top five worst business decisions of this generation. Note that I’m specifically discussing the time span between 2005 and 2012.

OXCGN’s PlayStation Vita System Review

Ushering in A New Era of Handheld Gaming

Nearly a year ago, fellow OXCGN writer Alex Baldwin and I teamed up for a dual review-debate on the Nintendo 3DS, discussing its pros, cons, hardware, and everything related to the system itself.

This time around, I have obtained the PlayStation Vita a week before him with the First Edition Bundle, and I’ve been left to my own thoughts, compared to Alex, who only has his jealousy. (ED: Now let’s all get along boys :) )

After having extensive time with the system, I am proud to say that the PlayStation Vita ushers in a new era of handheld gaming, even going so far as to say that it sets an example for the next generation of consoles.

Does it breathe life into gaming? See for yourself!

It’s that time again. Much as it did with the DS, Nintendo is heading up the jump into the next generation of portable gaming in March ahead of Sony’s ‘NGP’ release later in the year.

With no secrets left to hide, both the successes and debatable failings of Nintendo’s latest are exposed for all to see and, being the critical party poopers we are, it’s time to dive into the reasons that may hold you back from a launch-day purchase in no particular order.

DISCLAIMER: I have already used a 3DS, and pre-ordered my device for launch. This article is intended as critique of design flaws and decision in the Nintendo 3DS, not a review.

As such does not cover positive aspects of the device such as SpotPass, StreetPass or the gameplay possibilities of 3D. It is up to you to decide if the following listed issues will affect your own experience.

The State Of Game Piracy: Which platform is hardest hit and how?

Game pirates

have a huge effect on the industry…here’s how

Congratulations!

As today’s gamers, we have the great honour of being a part of the first generation of consoles and games where game development has actually been slowed and or even stopped in some cases due to piracy.

Of course it’s not like piracy is a new thing. Since we’ve had computers capable of writing to game media there has been the possibility to obtain your latest game fix via copying legal game media to blank equivalent storage, from floppy discs to CD-Rs to DVD-R and quite possibly BD-R soon. The difference this generation however is that it’s actually changing what games are being released and for which platform and in what order.

The lure of free games has often outweighed people’s morals, but never before has it been so common than present day. Someone who doesn’t know how to attach a picture to an email still knows how to get the latest Sims expansion for free. That’s why I think we should keep up to date with the current state of piracy and see the effect it’s had on each platform.

So here we go, starting with the traditional home of piracy: the humble PC.
