Backbreaker: (Fighter) – by Pub TBC / Natural Motion – Release date 2009 (US) TBA. GC ’08 (Hands On) and (Screens), more (Video). Game modes, number of teams, playbooks, offensive/defensive control schemes, and even online plans were all subjects that NaturalMotion wasn’t ready to talk about during today’s demo, though we hope to learn more about all of these aspects of the game in the near future. While the technology behind the game is quite obviously impressive, it’s in those other details that the commercial success of Backbreaker will be measured, especially in today’s highly competitive sports gaming market.

Beyond Good & Evil 2: (aka Michel Ancel’s project) (Action) – by Ubisoft / – Release date 2009/10 TBA Game (returns) check out the (videos). In the teaser, a camera swoops down across a desert wasteland until it focuses in on a broken-down hovercar. A woman sits atop the car (presumably Jade, the first game’s protagonist), her face obscured by an umbrella. On the other side of the machine, Pey’j rests until he is disturbed by a fly. The man-pig then engages in a tug-of-war of sorts, attempting to inhale the fly through his ample nostrils. Meeting success after a brief struggle, Pey’j mumbles, “Fifty.” A few seconds and some more snorting later, he grunts, “Fifty-one.”

Big Huge Game Project: (No – Title yet) (RPG) – by THQ / Big HugeGames – Release date 2009 TBA (Further Information and Announement) & (More News) & (Official website) THQ (buy-out BHG’s). “When we found this game about a year ago we were very excited because it’s not just about being in the [RPG] genre — you gotta really be at the top to compete. Otherwise, why bother? We had passed on lots and lots of stuff out there — some things even from relatively notable developers where, frankly, I’m happy we passed on them. Because the genre has really taken quite a big surge in quality in what you have to deliver; not only a big experience but a beautiful one. Something that’s bringing something new to the genre or I don’t think you’ve got a chance.”

BioShock 3: (FPS) – by 2K Games / 2K Aust/Marin – Release date 2010/11 TBA. Full (news and announcement) plus more (confirmation). Three months on, and Zelnick is once again talking BioShock. In a conference call following the publisher’s GTAIV-bolstered fiscal second quarter financial report, Zelnick teased the existence of a third installment in the acclaimed franchise. In response to a question concerning the Gore Verbinski-helmed theatrical release of BioShock, Zelnick said that the movie’s release is more likely to fall in proximity to BioShock 3, rather than BioShock 2.

Blood Bowl: (Parody Sports sim)- by Focus Home Interactive / Cyanide – Release date 31st Dec 2009 TBA (Game Information) Teaser (video) & (screens). A brutal team sport unfolding in a parallel fantasy world based on Warhammer and American football, Blood Bowl invites gamers to form a team of players from races including: Orcs, Elves, Humans, Dwarfs and many other fantasy creatures, and launch themselves into battle in the bloodiest of arenas. This strategy sports game combines a fine balance of tactics and bone crunching action.
