Damnation: (FPS TPS) – by Codemasters / Blue Omega Entertainment – Release date 2009 TBA. Game (First look Preview) and (screens). Evolving the shooter genre with its unique and exhilarating combination of fluid action and combat, Damnation will feature huge, open environments, frenetic combat, daredevil acrobatics and high-octane vehicle-based stunts. Presenting players with an intense test of reflexes, quick thinking and rapid-fire conflict, Damnation will feature vast, breathtaking landscapes, each covering miles of distance and thousands of vertical feet. In addition to the single player experience, Damnation comes complete with a unique set of multiplayer options that take full advantage of the game’s expansive levels.

Darksiders: (Action/Horror/Adventure) – by THQ / Vigil Games – Release date early 2010 TBA (Further Information and Announcement) and (Media and Vids) plus new (screens). Penned by legendary comic book artist Joe Madureira (X-Men, Battle Chasers, The Ultimates), Darksiders: Wrath of War is set in a Post-Apocalyptic demon-ravaged world where evil forces have prematurely brought about the end of the time. Originally sent to oversee the destruction of Earth, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse have been betrayed by their master, stripped of their powers and cast down to Earth. Players take on the role of WAR — the first of the Four Horsemen — as he embarks on a brutal quest of vengeance and revenge against the forces that betrayed him with the help of his phantom steed RUIN. The first title from new THQ studio Vigil Games, Darksiders: Wrath of War features open-world exploration, a deep combat system and a huge arsenal of modern and mythical weapons.

Dark Void: (??) – by Capcom / Airtights Games – Release date 2009 (US) TBA Game  Conference ’08 (impressions) plus (videos) and (screens). At its heart, the game asks a very simple question: If aliens kidnapped you, would you freak out or stay mellow? The game’s story casts as you as a fairly unlucky guy who’s sucked into an alien vortex and winds up in the void, Bermuda Triangle style. It turns out you’re not the first human to get nabbed by the aliens, called Watchers, and there’s a small contingent of humans surviving within this mysterious space. The action revolves around you exploring your new surroundings and trying to find a way out.

Data-Fly: (Genre: Action) (long time in development) – by Pub TBC / OriGO Gaming Entertainment – Release date 2009 TBA (Further Information) or (More news and media) plus (screens). Data-Fly will star a green-eyed female in metallic clothing. The few details we have are that the game will feature multiple and massive environments and a heavy element of stealth gameplay. Players will have the ability to scan items in the game world and replicate them by expending a certain amount of energy. There will also be multiple ways to distract and disorient your enemies as well as meld with and control certain mechanical foes.

Daybreakers: (FPS) – by /Trilogy Studios – Release date 2009 TBA (Further Information). Not much has been heard of this one since late ’06, but searches say it’s still under development. While they are currently keeping most of the details on Daybreakers a secret, Giolito did give us a couple of hints as to what the gameplay will be like. Instead of describing the game as an open world title, he told us that Daybreakers was a “dynamic world simulator”. He added that the game would feature more interactivity and more of a sense that the player’s actions have consequences in the game world. “I think that’s where games need to go, especially first person shooters,” Giolito told us. He also hinted that the game will feature a lot of character customization, adding that it’s this aspect that will be at the core of Daybreakers.

Dawn Of Fantasy: (MMO-RTStratergy) – by Lighthouse Interactive / Reverie Entertainment – Release date 2009 TBA (Further Information) or (More news and Wiki) plus some (screens). Over a thousand years ago, in a world much, much different than ours- a world where creatures that only our imagination create roamed the wild and the tamed lands. A place where Man lived, and Elf, Dwarf and Orc. A place where magic flows in the air, where hidden and forgotten civilizations return to life and where Dragons roam the skys. It is a place that like every other, has those who live in it who seek peace, and those who seek to make war. Those who seek to make allies of their neighbors and those who seek to conquer and smash. The choices that effect an entire world lye in your hands. The power to create, conquer, establish and rule a powerful city. The power to take a fledgling nation and through truth and justice or treachery and power- conquer the world. The decisions that will make a world or break it, are in your hands.

Dead Island: – by Pub TBC / Techland (Poland) (Action – Horror/Shooter) – Release date 2009 TBA (Further Information and Video) plus (Media shots) plus (more screen shots and game description). couple flying to the vacation of their dreams is torn apart by a violent plane crash. Take on a harrowing quest to find your lost wife. Enter into the dark world of a devastated tropical paradise now plunged into chaos. It’s a place where the word “dead” has an entirely new meaning. Face the nightmare and fight for survival. Explore the secrets hidden in the darkest regions of the island and fight your way through. Survival is your main goal! Dead Island is a non-linear FPP (First Person Perspective) survival horror title. The ultra-realistic combat system will ensure that every confrontation is a thrilling experience.

Dead Or Alive: Code Cronus: (fighting) – by Tecmo / Team Ninja  – Released date 2009 TBA (Further Information). While Team Ninja has undergone some changes, this game still comes up on the radar, and it seems Itagaki-San apologized for Dead or Alive Code: Cronus’ delay some time ago. So while not a lot is known about the game, other than it will of course include the DOA fighting Female Ninjas. We’ll keep an eye out on it, although I feel it will fall between the cracks and not appear.

Dead Or Alive 5: (Fighter) – by MGS-Team Ninja / Tecmo – Release date 2009 TBA (Further Information). Tecmo and Koei in talks re merger sept 08, so the DOA franchise is not dead, and expect both DOA 5 and the other iterations to appear, in due course. “While Square Enix’s offer put a generous 30 percent premium on Tecmo’s stock, it also had a firm deadline of Thursday, September 4. Today, Tecmo president Yasuharu Kakihara rejected it outright, according to the Reuters news service. Instead, the publisher announced is in talks to merge with another Japanese game label, Dynasty Warriors-maker Koei.”

Dead Risings 2 (Action-Adventure-Shooter) – by MGS / Capcom – Release date 2009 TBA (Further Information). in February McWhertor wrote up a rumor that Dead Rising 2 would be developed by a Western developer. Specifically, McWhertor wrote that development duties for the game have been handed over to Vancouver-area third-party Blue Castle Games. Well, like a zombie, a good rumor is hard to kill. We’ve just gotten tipped off from yet another source that yes the folks behind The Bigs for 2K Sports are in fact the team working on the Dear Rising sequel. (Is that a copy of Dead Rising on their art director’s desk?) Moreover, we’re told that this new Dead Rising game will leave the wilds of Colorado (dammit) and venture into Las Vegas.

Demons Of Mercy: (Action/adventure) – by – /Maxum Games – Release date winter 2009 TBA (Further Information) or (More news). Demons of Mercy centers around a gorgeous assassin named Mercy Dawn. An orphan adopted by the mob and trained by the Yakuza, Mercy has returned to the United States seeking revenge. Instead, she finds herself caught in a vicious war between Heaven and Hell, and only she holds the key to humanity’s salvation.

Deprived: (Survival-Horror FPS) – by Diesel Games / AstoundSound – Release date 2009 TBA (Further Information) and (Audio Sample) plus (More News). A survival horror first person shooter designed to showcase the AstoundSound audio technology in realtime virtual environments. AstoundSound is an amazing new audio technology from GenAudio that allows more immersive soundscapes – changing the way you hear and play video games.  “The game project, Deprived, will be the first interactive game to incorporate AstoundSound™. Providing accurate positional audio with elevation cues, AstoundSound will increase the player’s immersion beyond anything that is provided today”.

Deus Ex 3: Next-Gen: (FPS-RPG) – by Eidos Interactive / Edios Montreal – Release date 2009 TBA (Further Information) related (Edios Hiring) and (Junction Points Website – temp) plus (Additional discussion on platforms). gthier. He stressed, “We’re only working on AAA, major titles. We’re going to be developing only major AAA games, using only next-gen technology.”  Therefore, he continued, “We will want to limit our dev teams to a human-sized team of 80 people at the very highest of the peak in the production cycle. We don’t want to become a huge studio where there’s over 100 people on a title. We want a smaller, multi-discipline group that are tightly knit together. But by doing so, we will give them at least 18 to 24 months for the production cycle.”

Divinity 2 Ego Draconia: (Action) – by DTP Entertainment /  Larian Studios – Release date 2nd Qtr 2009 TBA Game (information) plus extensive (screens) and (trailer) plus (fansite kit). In Divinity 2 – Ego Draconis, players find themselves once again in Rivellon, a timeless world full of awe and magic, shattered and frightened by the apocalyptic wars of the past. Players begin as a Dragon Slayer, hunters whom travel the countryside determined to rid their lands of Dragons. As the story of Divinity 2 – Ego Draconis unfolds, the player will discover new abilities and possibilities as they evolve into a legendary Dragon Lord. In addition, the player character’s abilities can be steadily improved over the course of the game and specialised in specific areas.

DK Project: (The Last City of Heaven) (Action-Adventure) – by DK Project – Release date 2009 TBA (Further Information + Vid) or (More news & Media). DK Project: The Last City of Heaven is an open-city game set in Skyne City in the year 2030. The story is one of revenge and ambition, as a 20-year-old girl who has discovered the murder of her father joins the local mafia to take command of her life. You can use bio-implants to increase the capacities of the heroin, letting her jump higher, move faster, and fight with more power. The game also features multiplayer play, and runs on its own unique 3D engine.

Dog Tag: Urban Warfare: – by Diesel Power / Digital Jesters – by – Release date 2009 TBA (Further Information) still in development and being moved back. Dogtag, a tactical shooter where you control an elite Spec Ops Squad set to arrest and retrieve the command structure behind the rebellion. There’s a small overview you can check along with the press release, and a small batch of screenshots. Release is scheduled for Q2 2006 for the PC and Xbox 360. Enjoy! DogTag will incorporate a unique cover-based gameplay design, encouraging players to interact with every aspect of their environment for offensive and defensive situations. The developers have also taken care to design the enemy AI to detect your every moves, ultimately preventing you from deploying the same bread-and-butter tactics.

Doom 4: (FPS) – by iD Software / iD Siftware – Release date 2009 TBA. Recent (news on up-coming game) and (more news). After a nearly four year hiatus, the Doom series is back. Id Software today announced that Doom 4 has officially begun production and that the company is looking for new talent to produce the sequel. Said id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead, “Doom is part of the id Software DNA and demands the greatest talent and brightest minds in the industry to bring the next installment of our flagship franchise to Earth.” Right now that’s all we know. No platforms have been announced but, given the franchise’s history, we’d expect it to show up on the 360 in some form.

Driver 4: (tbc) (Arcade racer/Action-Adventure) – by VUbisoft / Ubisoft – Released date TBC. (acquired license in ’06 from Atari). “We are thrilled with this acquisition which will allow us to add a prestigious title to our catalogue and to enter into the driving games segment, one of the most important segments in the gaming industry. With more than 14 million units sold throughout the world, Driver is one of the most successful brands in the history of video games. We look forward to leveraging the unique knowledge of the Ubisoft studios to ensure that Driver will be one of the leading brands of the next generation of consoles.” said Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft.

Duke Nukem Forever: (tbc) (FPS) – by 2kGames – Released 2009 TBA (Further Information) and (teaser trailer) and (snippet). The Neer-Ending-Story of this game is above all others in the industry. It is coming, but so is the turn of the century. roussard stated that the project is “going really well” and that “There are several hours of fairly polished game to play.” Broussard added further that the game is undergoing testing and that “things are coming together,” saying, “It’s fun, it’s in focus, we know what bits are fun and which are not, and it’s just a matter of time now.” Broussard concluded by saying he’s “probably never been as happy or excited” about Duke Nukem Forever as he is right now.

Dungeon Explorer (Action RPG) – by Hudson Entertainment / Hudson – Release date 2009 TBA. This game pops up on the gradar every now and then, so it “could” arrive sometime seeing they have made other platform versions. Hudson’s classic dungeon crawler series returns for the new generation with this completely revamped and re-envisioned action-RPG, expanding on the multiplayer elements that made the game so popular. Summon three of your closest friends and let the adventure begin again – this time in the palm of your hands!

Dungeon Hero: (Adventure) – by Gamecock Media Group / FireFly Studios – Release date 2009 TBA (Further Information/Announcement) and (Media video interview) plus (Further Information) and (Official Website). Dungeon Hero provides players with a fresh take on the classic dungeon based game. The in-game world is a totally functional, living, breathing community in every way. Eat, sleep, chat, socialize, trade and travel as you would in any civilized place – after all dungeon creatures are people too! Fierce adrenaline pumping close quarters combat against a multitude of enemies drives the player deep into their heroic role. The battle system is intense with savage encounters that will leave enemies wondering where they went wrong. Dark times call for one to stand against many, will you be the one strong enough to become the Hero of the Dungeon?
